The TV Squad Podcast: The Golden Globes, when to watch a show live, and more

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 21st 2009 6:09PM
TV Squad logoIt was a very loosey-goosey podcast this week, as Jason Hughes, Kona Gallagher and Danny Gallagher join me to talk about some of the goings on in TV:

  • We talk about what we usually watch this time of year, whether it's holiday specials or just catching up on shows via DVD,
  • The Golden Globes nominations came out last week, and we talk about how they got things (mostly) right,
  • Something Danny has some experience with: When should you make like it's the 1990s and actually watch a show in real time to ensure you don't get spoiled (like the Dexter finale)?
  • Ask TV Squad, Comment of the Week, our picks of the week, and more!

Run time is 1:11:23

You can listen to the podcast below, or download from here or by subscribing to our RSS podcast feed. It is also available via iTunes. Feel free to leave us feedback in the comments or drop us a line at tvsquadpodcast [at] gmail [dot] com.

As usual, the music at the beginning and end of the podcast is "Life" by Justin Trawick. Note that we recorded the podcast last week, so my pick of the week -- Cowboys vs. Saints -- has already happened.

I love the podcast, the interaction between the contributors is insightful, charming, and filled with humor. In fact I enjoy the discussion more than the interviews and I wish the interviews were in a separate podcast.

However - I dislike the weekly discussion of comments on the blog. The overall sensitivity to what a small portion of readers are commenting upon always turns into derisive comments about your readers.

It makes me feel as if i am not a part of the discussion but an annoyance for you to deal with while doing other portions of your job.

Perhaps the issue is that you cannot infer nonverbal context from comments. So when someone is saying "thanks for being spoiled" - you should interpret it as they are being sincere in their gratitude. At least that spin will make you less resentful of the comments on that keep this blog alive and exciting.

It is an age old saying that you cannot have contempt for your audience and these weekly discussion betray that adage.

great show as always, can we get a preview of some of the stuff coming up? chuck, lost, etc?

but can you spend less time talking about the comments?

is cable being snubbed overall by the award shows? besides monk and madmen i don't think any other cable show really gets the recognition it deserves with the best new shows being on cable why the snub?

also any news on the tbs show my boys?
