Rick Sanchez gets new CNN show, Rick's List

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 23rd 2009 3:00PM
rick_sanchez_cnnRick Sanchez is one of those CNN personalities -- it's hard to call him a news reporter -- who doesn't really fit the mold. He never fit the mold as a local guy down here in South Florida either. However, CNN seems to believe that Rick has an appeal. That said, CNN will give Rick Sanchez a new show in just a few weeks. Commencing January 18, 2010, Rick's List will be a daily two-hour installment of Rich Sanchez. The timing is interesting because they're cutting an hour into Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room.

This actually makes sense. The Situation Room is very political and during the campaign and the election, the ratings were high. We're in a post-election period now and will be for a while.

The CNN idea is to fill the afternoon with more fluff and general interest news, the kind of stuff Rick Sanchez is better suited to handle. He can talk about lists for hours, taking calls, reading Tweets and vamping. The man enjoys the sound of his own voice.

By the way, if the idea of Rick's List reminds you of something else you read recently, it could be the news out of MSNBC. They're setting up Dylan Ratigan with a new afternoon show -- four o'clock -- and starting a new morning show called The Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie. Rundown or list? Sounds similar, don't you think?

I think that Rick Sanchez is an awesome news broadcaster and journalist who keeps his audience engaged. He brings a more interactive and dynamic show to the CNN audience, covering the news of the day, politics, entertainment, and stories that are very important to his audience that sometimes other journalist do not cover.

In his today show he presented the case of how important it is to check your med. bills carefully, so you don't end up being charged $150.00 for 1 aspirin or a $1000.00 for a toothbrush in a hospital facility as it has happened to some people. And his list of important and informative topics in his daily show goes on and on.

The problem here about some people wanting to send Rick to an island somewhere to swing with sharks (which by the way, you don't need too, because he is already swimming every day around some vicious predator sharks as some of you might be.) is pure racism and prejudice.

Give the guy credit, because at least people like you guys are just a minority little group, since his audience and rating numbers show otherwise.

Come on people! Let's build other humans up, specially if they have the academics, experience and intellect to do their jobs. Whether some of you like it or not, GET OVER IT!!! This is "TODAY'S AMERICA FOR ALL." It is the country which we all love and it has a place and opportunities for all of us, in spite of not being descendants of the great "Native Americans," 1st. inhabitants of this great nation.

Remember the story of the Native Americans, Pilgrims, and May Flower Ship sailing against all odds, (including sharks) with a precious human cargo who showed bravery, endurance and greater hope for a better life for them and their children's children? Well, do you remember how this adventurous people from England and other parts of Europe arrive here and how they were treated by the N.A. people? Does it sounds familiar to some of you? Because to some of us, it surely does sound familiar. So, if you do remember all of these beautiful stories of this glorious nation of ours, then it is very easy to figure out that everyone else besides the "Native Americans," are just Immigrants or of immigrant descendancy. WHAT AN AWESOME AND COLORFUL LAND IT'S THIS ONE WHICH GLORIOUS FLAG STANDS FOR ALL THE PEOPLE OF THIS SO LOVED NATION OF OURS, INCLUDING "RICK SANCHEZ ON CNN"!!!

Rick, I have been a faithful follower of your current and past shows, however, I find a need to comment on your current show's visual format. Perhaps it is just CNN's overall policy, but with all the banners, scrolling advertisements relating to your upcomming shows, and particularly the huge RICK'S LIST logo, I am completely distracted from your show's comment that i turn away to another channel. I do not like this because i am missing out on your insights and issues you are trying to broadcast. Please do not take this personally, but you at times appear comical because you seem to favor your right side, thereby tiltng a bit in that direction. However, how you appear to the television viewer is that you need to lean to the right to get out of the way of that huge RICK'S LIST logo. If you have the influence, please take off all the useless banners and logo so that your audience can pay attention to the content of your messages and not be distracted by this questionable "art". There is something called "shadowing" whereby an individual cannot listen to two things at one time and i believe this applies to listening and being distacted by this useless trash. Please change this so that i may be able to view your shows giving YOU my total attention.

I happened to come across this comment section re Rick Sanchez and was pleasantly surprised to see it isn't just me who thinks this guy is pompous and conceited. He practically slobbers on the camera while he is kissing it. I have never seen someone so in love with himself. How can CNN expect to be taken seriously when they put someone of this caliber on for 2 hours during the day? He might work well on some late night light fluff show, but certainly not on a serious news show. I usually have CNN on all day in the background but have to turn it off when he is on.

Leftist, liberal, blah blah blah...its not like you turn on the news expecting unbiased information. If you do, watch BBC, one of the few news channels that still prides itself on investigative journalism, which usually does a great job at providing both sides of any story.

My beef with Senor Sanchez is he is simply not a good anchor, liberal or not. I just watched his mike actually fall off his tie during his live show, he fumbled with it making some crazy noises, and clipped it back on. He then tells us his producers just talked to him (while he points to his ear) through his earpiece, "which we call an IFB in case your were wondering." No Dick, we weren't.

Then while talking to Anderson Cooper in Haiti, he asks "I heard you guys had another earthquake today? You may also know them as aftershocks?" Give me an effin break Dick.

Then to top it off, his show format blows. I live in LA, and he mentioned footage of the LA floods (which is news to me), so I watched a little longer, then a little longer, then a little longer. No flood footage. You might say, well they got you to watch longer, and yes, I must agree. But I can assure you that the 40 minutes spent watching Rick Sanchez today will surely be my last. I'd rather watch Nancy Grace and try to figure out if she has a crazy eye, or is just plain crazy. Not sure who I'd want to hit first, Nancy Grace or Rick Sanchez....celebrity deathmatch, where are you when we need you?!

Rick's List? What's this..."Entertainment Tonight?" Who votes on it? Why would anyone be on "it?" What a dopey way to waste prime-noon-time with this clown. What's next...an hourly "Rick's List?" Although I needed a mid-day break from the one sentence paragraphed, Wolf Blitzer, this guy reminds me a bit of Desi Arnaz with no real show!

I just stumbled onto this guy, Rick Sanchez. I have the day off due to MLK Day. Thank you Dr. King. Is it just me, or is Mr. Sanchez in love with the sound of his own voice? It would appear that he also has the ego to match.
