Cagney and Lacey reunite on first Burn Notice of 2010

burn_notice_tyne_daly_sharon_glessHave you received all your Christmas gifts? Would you like one more? Okay, here it is, when Burn Notice returns for the winter season on January 21, the first episode will include guest star Tyne Daly. That's right, Tyne will be reuniting with her Cagney & Lacey co-star Sharon Gless. This is will be the first of seven new Burn Notices till next summer.

There's another Cagney & Lacey story in the news. CSI creator Anthony Zuiker wants to revive the show for CBS. For those who don't recall, Cagney & Lacey was the top female cop drama of the 1980's -- actually of all time. It was a serious police drama, unlike something jiggly like Charlie's Angels or safe and pedestrian like Police Woman.

Also, with Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly starring in the title roles, the acting was superb. They took turns winning the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for six years in a row. Yes, six years running! The show also won the Emmy as Outstanding Drama Series in 1985 and 1986.

So it's interesting that Zuiker wants to do another Cagney & Lacey. He has a lot to live up to. His new concept is called Jax & Amber, and it's the story of two police detectives who are partner. There's talk that one of the cops might be a lesbian. That doesn't relate to Cagney & Lacey, who were both straight, but it might appeal to the strong gay following for the original series.

Whether or not Jax & Amber ever materializes, or lives up to the quality of Cagney & Lacey, it will be great to see Sharon and Tyne on screen again in Burn Notice. Not to mention Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar and Bruce Campbell. Here's a preview of the upcoming season:

Bringing it back to Burn Notice, I love the thought of Tyne and Sharon sharing screen time, two superb actresses and it'll be great fun to watch. I let it out a little happy 'whoo' when I read the title of this post. Something to look forward to.

Let he or she who is without sin cast the first ... I love the pure and perfect human beings who decide immorality. It cracks me up!

While I am happy to hear that a "new Cagney and Lacey" is immerging, I m sorry to hear that one of the characters will be a lesbian. I will not be veiwing this program simply because of that fact. Everyone has the freedom to turn the channel and in this case that is what my family will be doing. I am still, and will always be a fan of Cagney and Lacey but will not tollerate immoral television in my home.

Jax & Amber title in that order sound more butch for gay crowd. Esp with male soap opera character Jax. Gays can
dream of who is who. Amber is babe name but Jax has that
he-she quality.
As to Burnt Notice itself. Loved the show but this bit smacks of the end of the road trickery often seen when running out of ideas. Next step bring on celebs looking for a line on resume. Then a baby itch angle and/or marriage dance. End up with one of two leads fending death.
White Collar in NYC having more depth, style and flair than bubble gum of Miami. Oh well. Fun while it lasted.
Thanks for preview link.
