Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Returning to 'All My Children'

'Live With Regis and Kelly' co-host Kelly Ripa is getting ready to return to her roots, and we're not talking about her hair.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ripa will be heading back to her old stomping ground on the ABC soap opera 'All My Children' for a two-part arc beginning January 4. Ripa, who starred on the long running daytime drama for over a decade beginning in 1990, will reprise her role as Hayley Vaughan Santos, who, in a stretch for Ripa, is a television personality.

Ripa will be joined by her real-life and on-screen husband Mark Consuelos. In a story worthy of a soap opera, the two met on the set of 'All My Children,' where Consuelos played Hayley's love interest Mateo Santos, and secretly eloped during a break from filming in 1996.

Both stars departed the show at the beginning of the decade but now are returning as part of a wave of alumni who will appear next month to celebrate the drama's 40th anniversary. Also returning are Eva La Rue, Julia Barr, Laurence Lau, Taylor Miller, James Mitchell, Leven Rambin and Eden Riegel, among others.

According to the report, the story line will focus on the fictional town of Pine Valley being elected the "Most Congenial Town in America," which prompts a Hayley and Mateo to visit so that she can "produce and host a documentary for her television show 'The Wave,' as she interviews her family members, friends and citizens who all call Pine Valley home."

Because, as Ripa put it, "it is always great to come home."
