Brit Hume has some advice for Tiger Woods

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 4th 2010 11:27AM
Fox News Channel's Brit Hume gave Tiger Woods a little bit of advice yesterday. It wasn't about his golf swing or what media strategy to embrace to get back on the good side of the public or even just a general "hey, keep it in your pants, pal." Hume said that the only way that Woods can be truly forgiven is if he changes his religion.

Let the controversy begin!

So many of you have made the very point that true Christianity makes: we ARE all unrighteous, in fact the Bible says we are all like filthy rags!! Christ ALONE was and is perfect. That is why His Father completely accepted His death on the cross as a sacrifice for all who will come to Him by faith in Him alone. His resurrection from the grave was proof that He had accomplished what God sent Him to do on our behalf. It cost Him everything to do that for those who will come to Him. Nobody else can do good enough or be good enough to deserve redemption. It may cost Brit Hume a lot in this present life to have spoken as he did, but some day he will stand before Christ unashamed and his reward for his faithful testimony will far more than compensate for any jeers that he endures now. Bret spoke in love, and for no other reason. No man comes unto God the Father except through Christ. This is a matter not just for now but for all eternity to come.

Ian, I absolutely respect other religions, but what's the point in following them if they don't get you to heaven? Our time on this earth is miniscule compared to the time we will spend in eternity in either heaven or hell. Jesus made this outrageous claim..."I am the way, the truth, and the life, no-one comes to the Father except through me." Do you believe the Bible??

Not "your religion is better than my religion" STUFF..... Thank you, Brit Hume, for standing up for Chistianity. He'll win golf tournaments, but will he be able to look himself in the mirror and see integrity? The Christian faith can help him do that....seems a simple message from Brit and one worthy of mention.

Decent comments until the comment that Woods should shop religions because he has one which has greater forgiveness. So Brit Hum (presumably a Christian)thinks it's fine to jump religions not because of ones "faith" or "beliefs" but because another is more "forgiving"????

Hume really needs to listento this piece of advice and understand how incredibly insincere it is. More "my religion is better than yours" stuff which is the root of so many of the world's problems. Why cannot supposedly mature "talking head Christians" just accept other people's beliefs and respect them?

Christianity is different than other religions in that Jesus is coming back for His own, and we are required to proselytize. The bible says.."how will they know if no-one tells them". And Jesus said..."You will be hated because of my name"

mio,

I realize Christianity is "different" from other religions. That's the same for all religions they ALL have differences. The differences do NOT make one better than another, just different. The core is what one believes i.e your core "faith".

My point is merely that Hume was not offering to recruit Woods to Christianity on the basis of changing his "beliefs". He was suggesting a change in religion because Christianity offers a way to be "forgiven", for ones prior bad behavior, so that one can move on in peace. I found this level of approach utterly disingenuous and lacking in proper respect for both Buddhism AND Christianity. i.e. Don't sell Christianity on the basis of an easy way to move on.
Hume may well be a decent person, but he has a LOT to learn about respect for other religions and beliefs and hopefully he will apologize on TV ASAP.

I wish we could go back to the days that journalists didn't share their opinions and only reported the news...

Forgiveness by who?

How much shit would Hume be if he suggested to a Christian, that a change of religion would be good for him. Way to take a big steamy load on Buddhism, Brit.

Yeah, Christianity. That'll fix it. Like it fixed Jimmy Swaggart, John Ensign, Bill Clinton, John Sanford, Strom Thurmond.....The list goes on forever.

Give me a break, I listened to that piece on TV last night and, while I thought it was a bit odd, all he said was that Tiger's religion didn't offer the same opportunities for forgiveness that Christianity does.

No, he said "Tiger, turn to the Christian faith, and you can make a full recovery." And he said this after claiming that Buddhism was essentially inferior because it didn't offer opportunities for "redemption". That's not only arrogant, it's dumb. And this from the senior "journalist" who's supposed to give the Fox network a modicum of respectability.
