Is Kathy Griffin banned from CNN?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 5th 2010 2:30PM
Kathy GriffinIn 2008, Kathy Griffin said something on CNN's New Year's Eve show that was shocking, something concerning a heckler and his penis. A few days ago she said the F word live during the broadcast. Will she be back on CNN on December 31 of this year?

Not according to our friends over at PopEater. They say that insiders have revealed that CNN has banned Griffin from all future New Year's Eve shows. For the record, the network says that they have not discussed who will or won't be on the next New Year's Eve show.

So, should Griffin be banned? I'm all for outrageous humor, blah, blah, blah, but I think there has to be a common-sense limit to what she says on a live show. Her Bravo stand-up specials are one thing, but she says the F word on live TV after she says something equally risque' the year before? What do you think?

Update: CNN says that reports that Griffin has been banned are false because no decision has been made on next year's show yet.

OK, at the risk of being called a "hater", I have never liked Kathy Griffin. I realize her act is edgy and she likes to take risks, but I don't think she's funny, and she's certainly not witty. Her whole thing is curse words and toilet humor. I hope to high heaven that CNN really DOES ban her. I was actually shocked to see her back this New Year's Eve. Please, who NEEDS this??? She's not even funny enough for Comedy Central.

I think we are missing the bigger picture here: why the HELL does CNN have a New Years Eve show? They are a serious news network, are they not? We don't need all channels to be all things to all people. That's why there are different channels to begin with!

Wow, I really think that CNN needs to get over the fact that it was one curse word. One. For people who say she isn't funny, someone must think she is because she's made millions of bucks for being just that.

It was late night and quite frankly, I bet Kathy is loving all the attention we are giving her right now. Kathy, are you reading this? It's Damien. Very nice meet you.

I personally thought the show was hysterical. I will say, however, that I thought the picture of Falcon was a plant to get Kathy to say something like she did. So I don't feel CNN was totally innocent here.

Ban her for being a stupid dimwitted f...

She's not funny. This schtick isn't funny or new either.

"Haha I said a bad word on live TV."

How novel... Your insight into comedy is amazing. What's next, fart jokes? I take that back, even the occasional fart joke is funny. I was forced to site there through one of her bravo specials. I didn't laugh, not once. Miserable hack. Ban her from television.

She's better than Andy Dick, but not by much, at the bottom of the barrel of egotists who will do anything to keep their name "out there."

So it seems that CNN was somewhat "naive" about Kathy Griffin. AND.....When she actually used Explicit Language on Live TV, Well, the Execs at CNN NEVER saw it coming. SUPPOSEDLY!!! The Result: For being Herself (and admittedly, a little over the line) Kathy has been Banned from CNN's future shows. I heartily AGREE that CNN's New Year Shows will NOT be as entertaining without her. It's a Well Known Fact: Kathy Griffin is her own self & it's all pretty much out there for you. Hopefully you get it.

I agree w/those who have already stated CNN knew EXACTLY what they were getting into. And no, I'm not surprised at all. Kathy really needs to be limited to cable so she can be... well... Kathy. With that being said, if she was going to push the limits & cross the line, at least she could have been funny. The whole show was painful, not funny at all. Anderson just fake giggles thru the whole thing letting Kathy take over, again, which would have been fine had she been funny. Sorry Kathy - I'm a big fan - but the show sucked. And not in a good way. Your not funny stuck in a network box.
