James Van Der Beek MercyJames Van Der Beek has landed a recurring role on NBC's 'Mercy.' The 'Dawsons Creek' alum will play Dr. West on the freshman medical drama series, a "cocky" and "womanizing" doctor who is also harboring a major secret. If all goes well, Van Der Beek -- who has recently guested on shows like 'Ugly Betty,' 'The Forgotten' and 'One Tree Hill' -- could become a series regular. In the meantime, no word on when he'll officially scrub in. [Ausiello Files]

Mischa Barton SVUFan(s?) still mourning the loss of 'The Beautiful Life' finally have reason to celebrate, as star Mischa Barton is about to make yet another TV comeback. The 'OC' starlet has booked herself a guest spot on 'Law & Order: SVU,' where she will play Gladys, a hooker with -- yep, you guessed it -- a complicated secret. Barton's episode, airing Mar. 3 on NBC, will mark her first TV appearance since the low-rated 'Life' was canceled in September, after just two episodes. [TV Guide]

Kim RaverKim Raver ('24') has been promoted to series regular on 'Grey's Anatomy.' Raver, who joined the show in November, will continue to play cardio surgeon Dr. Teddy Altman in all but one of this season's remaining episodes. Good news for everyone -- well, except for Dr. Yang. Read more about Raver's promotion here.

Pablo SchrieberPablo Schreiber has punched in to FX's upcoming boxing drama 'Lights Out.' Best known for his portrayal of Nick Sobotka on 'The Wire,' Schreiber will play brother and boxing manager to Patrick "Lights" Leary (Holt McCallany), replacing Elias Koteas, who originated the role in the pilot. Also joining the cast: Catherine McCormack and Stacy Keach, as Lights' wife and father. [Hollywood Reporter]

Julie BenzJulie Benz lives! The actress, whose character was (spoiler!) recently killed off the hit Showtime series 'Dexter,' is reportedly moving to 'Desperate Housewives'' Wisteria Lane. There, she'll play Debbie, a stripper with a heart of gold (and, incidentally, a Masters in education) who becomes involved with Susan (Teri Hatcher). Is this the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Decide for yourself.
