Fat Guys on Sitcoms Are ALWAYS (Pathetically) Trying to Lose Weight

by Patricia Chui, posted Jan 7th 2010 12:34PM
Jason AlexanderJason Alexander was just announced as the new Jenny Craig spokesperson, which is a pretty far cry from his old KFC-touting gig.

Do we want to see Alexander in a bikini? Hell, naw. But if there's any way his new attitude can help reverse the trend of fat guys starring in sitcoms (often with svelte, gorgeous wives -- seriously, what's up with that?), then we're all for it.

Of course, it's not as though those chubsters never tried to shed the pounds ... some more enthusiastically than others. Because you know what's more hilarious than a funny fat guy? A funny fat guy as he pathetically attempts to lose weight. Here's hoping Alexander has more success than these guys did.

'The King of Queens': Doug Hits the Gym
We don't know why Doug (Kevin James) even tries to exercise, given that he's not only the king of Queens, but also the king of overweight sitcom stars with beautiful wives. But producers, did we really need that camera shot from between the man's thighs? No. No, we did not.

'Family Matters': Carl Goes on a Diet
Worried that he's too fat to go to his reunion, Carl (Reginald VelJohnson) lets his family put him on a diet, then gets so hungry he scarfs down a jar of baby food. Oh, Carl -- don't you know everyone will be too busy looking at your hairline to care about your waist?

'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air': Uncle Phil Dances
It's not the most orthodox workout routine, but this is probably more exercise than Uncle Phil (James Avery) usually gets in a week. To quote another rapper: C'mon Fatso, just bust a move.

'The Simpsons': Homer Learns What a "Gym" Is
God bless Homer Simpson, always learning new things. Here, he learns what a gym is ... and whoa, check out those guns! This is also your chance to imagine what Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger might have been like as a personal trainer -- apparently he'd be telling schlubs like Homer to go "harder ... faster."

'All in the Family': Archie Goes on a Diet
When Archie's (Carroll O'Connor) doctor orders him to lose weight, the entire family goes on a diet; and he's not the only one who cheats. As you might guess, Archie does not go gently into that good night, trumpeting what might be the fat sitcom star's mantra: "God did not give man a belly just to hang a button on!"

'Home Improvement': "The Man's Gym"
Beer tube and recliner at the weight machine? Massages? Toilet on the rowing machine? Forget those fancy gyms and their lame emphasis on health -- where do we sign up?

Funny enough I have one of those and my husband swears that he never dated larger women. I am almost half his size, my bathroom scales prove it! Not only is it in Holly Wood but it's at my house too! hahahaha.

On a sad note when I meet new people they always ask what I ever saw in him! I must have seen something because we have been married for nearly 20 years!
