Lots of changes coming to CNN (and they don't involve Kathy Griffin)

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 7th 2010 3:01PM
CNNIt's a new year and CNN has decided to shake up it's daytime lineup. Here's what's going to happen later this month.

  • Heidi Collins is leaving the network. Her last day is January 15.
  • Ali Velshi is taking over the 1pm to 3pm slot.
  • Kyra Phillps moves to the 9am to 11am slot.
  • Rick Sanchez keeps his 3pm to 5pm slot but his show gets a new name, Two Hours of Annoying Talk and Viewer Comments with Rick Sanchez. Actually, it's called Rick's List, which is an even worse title.
  • Wolf Blitzer's show will be cut by an hour.

I like watching Phillips in the afternoon (I don't usually watch any of the cable news channels in the morning) so I'll miss her, but Velshi is a good choice.

I watched 20 minutes of Rick's List -- 5 minutes of inane stuff and 15 minutes of commercials. That's all I could stand. Where are Wolf Blitzer and Jack Cafferty?????

Thank goodness there's MSNBC.

Heidi Collins was the best commentator in the morning. Tony Harris sucks (way too cheerful and upbeat for the news he's reporting). Rick Sanchez is a babbling idiot who is so arrogant, his opinion is always right (at least that's what he thinks)! You got rid of the wrong person CNN--I won't be watching Rick Sanchez at all. Bring Heidi back and get rid of Tony instead.

Why not cut Rick Sanchez to one hour? I'm sick of his whining.

Wolf Blitzer is my favorite news man. I find he does respond to guests comments instead of thinking of what he next planned to say. So sorry we will lose him for an hour.
Rick Sanchez is unique. Hope CNN doesn't make the mistake of having 3 hrs. of shows all having a similar theme - such as Fox News - attacks Pres. Obama for 3 hours in a row. Rick serves some viewers purposes very well.
Wishing Don Lemon well in his schedule change. What a fine commentator.
As for Kathy Griffin - just a pottymouth, no redeeming value.

Although the network tries hard it has become muddled in some of the worst no news stories like the death of Michael Jackson. The American people want hard hitting pertinent news not a diatribe of how many pills Mr jackson or those similar to him have swallowed leading to their demise. The network would do better with weather related news from around the world rather than these trashy reports.

CNN is keeping Rick Sanchez? WHY? Will miss Heidi. I still miss the O'Brien's in the morning. Yeah, get rid of Nancy. It is nice that she isn't talking about the Anthony case every single night. Glad to see Dobbs go. Blitzer is boring.

Cafferty with his own show...absolutely not. Cafferty use to be a news anchor on local nbc in nyc years ago and he was over the top then as he is now but he comes with some baggage. CNN heads probably realize giving him his own show would be a bad move because he can become extremely controversial and clownish and he did have a drinking problem which he has probably beat. Heidi collins is a dime stunningly beautiful at least to me thats usually one of the reasons as a man would make me watch a particular news program as well as the content but a beautiful women does cheer me up. Sanchez is what he is...annoying yet palpible. That other guy tj the so called hansome god to a lot of women is ok but the clarity of his voice is not clear, I find myself turning up the volume when I hear his commentary. Lou Dobbs was a windbag and Velshi is a rare find the guy is simply brilliant. Good job with the news content CNN just add 2 or 3 more beauties and I won't have to look at fox once in a while for news with a beautiful face..not ugly O'reilly...lol.

I'm with you luther. The smartest thing that CNN could do to re-affirm that it is the #1 NEWS station would be to kill the Nancy Grace show. It is useless, biased Babble.

They could have made a lot of us very happy if they would have cut out the Nancy Grace babble, babble, babble show. Now that would have been a good cut.

That's hilarious: Two Hours of Annoying Talk and Viewer Comments with Rick Sanchez.

I actually read your post while watching CNN and he's on right now, spouting off about something: Twitter, Facebook or something. He is a total goof.

I love TV Squad by the way.
