'Dance Your Ass Off' Replaces Full-Figured Marissa Jaret Winokur with Thinner Host

Marissa Jaret Winokur / Melanie BrownHollywood is full of super skinny celebrities, but it isn't often that the entertainment industry embraces fuller-figured talent.

That's why it made perfect sense when Oxygen's dance-weight loss reality show, 'Dance Your Ass Off,' nabbed curvy host Marissa Jaret Winokur -- who charmed audiences and won a Tony for her role in 'Hairspray' on Broadway, and danced her way to the semi-finals on season 6 of 'Dancing With the Stars' -- for its first season.

It's also why it's so disappointing that they've replaced Winokur with -- gasp! -- a skinnier host for season 2. Despite great ratings for season 1, Oxygen has announced that former Spice Girl and fellow 'DWTS' alum Melanie Brown, a.k.a. Mel B., is replacing Winokur as the show's host.Marissa Jaret Winokur / Melanie BrownHollywood is full of super skinny celebrities, but it isn't often that the entertainment industry embraces fuller-figured talent.

It's also why it's so disappointing that they've replaced Winokur with -- gasp! -- a skinnier host for season 2. Despite great ratings for season 1, Oxygen has announced that former Spice Girl and fellow 'DWTS' alum Melanie Brown, a.k.a. Mel B., is replacing Winokur as the show's host.

To be fair, there's a new production company running the show, and it appears other changes will be made -- Danny Teeson will be joining creator and executive producer Lisa Ann Walter at the judges' table again, but Mayte Garcia will likely be replaced.

Also, Brown did remind TV Critics that she lost 60 pounds for her season of 'DWTS' and that dancing helped her shed her baby weight. She obviously has the background and the dancing chops but, for the most part, her public persona has been built on being physically fit.

So what gives? Has one of the few TV shows praised for understanding what it's like to struggle with weight fired their own frontwoman for struggling with hers? Does skinny just sell, even on a show about weight loss and finding inner beauty? Or, as Oxygen claims, is Mel B. just a better fit for the show and more relatable for their audience?

UPDATE (Jan. 11, 2:45PM ET): Winokur's rep tells AOL TV that the decision not to return for season 2 was mutual and that Winokur left because she was criticized by producers for her appearance and the program did not allow her to interact with contestants.
