'Glee' Renewed for Second Season; Here's a Wish List for 5 More

'Glee' is on a roll, and we're not just talking about the wheelchair-bound, soul-singing character Artie.

Monday morning Fox announced at the Television Critics Association confab that the sweetly buoyant TV phenomenon 'Glee' will return to Fox's 2010 fall line-up for an encore season. The adequately rated program about high school misfits who sing and dance their hearts out has struck a chord with the American public looking for something truly original in a TV landscape mostly filled with run-of-the-mill procedural and medical shows.'Glee' is on a roll, and we're not just talking about the wheelchair-bound, soul-singing character Artie.

In light of the gleeful news of Fox greenlighting a second season of 'Glee,' we wanted to name five other quality shows from the 2009-2010 TV schedule that deserve the same fate.

Here are our picks for the shows that we'd love to see get renewed for a sophomore season:

'Modern Family'
Recalling the crazed, absurd antics of 'Arrested Development,' this new single-camera comedy about the modern complexities of family life has thoroughly won over our hearts, and we haven't laughed this hard since ... well, 'Arrested Development.' The endlessly zany clan of the Pritchetts proves week after week to be the funniest, and most politically incorrect, family on TV. Both critic and audience approved, 'Modern Family' should be getting that second-season greenlight any minute now.

'The Good Wife'
Without a doubt the best new drama of the 2009-2010 season so far, 'The Good Wife' is not just another courtroom drama. Anchored by revealing, character-driven story lines, the show about a politician's wife moving on post-call girl scandal has evolved into something far more emotionally complex, and one cannot forget the spectacular, career-defining performance by Julianna Margulies.

'The Vampire Diaries'
When we first heard about 'The Vampire Diaries,' we were skeptical. (Not another vampire show?!) But Kevin Williamson's high school soap about a town seeped in vampire lore has become unexpectedly nuanced, with characters and plot-lines that have much deeper impact than just another primetime soap -- and the show is actually scary. The CW will surely renew this popular teen program, as a win at the 2010 People's Choice Awards for Best New Drama pretty much sealed its fate.

'Men of a Certain Age'
Pegged as a 'fortysomething' for men, 'Men of a Certain Age' offers an insightful, candid premise; following the lives of three men going through a sort-of-mid-life crisis as they keep their friendships alive post-college, the show amazes with subtle, humorous performances from three outstanding actors -- Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher. A realistic portrayal of growing up and into adulthood, 'Men of a Certain Age' is one of the best new editions to the cable line-up, and we're crossing our fingers for another season.

'V'
'V,' though not as consistently rewarding as the highly acclaimed 'Battlestar Galactica,' is the newest reboot of a cult TV show on the block, and so far the season has been fairly uneven. But the show's strengths outweigh its clunky dialogue and slightly shoddy performances, creating a world that is, undoubtedly, thrilling; the intriguing concept of a lizard-alien race slyly taking over Earth is just too hard to pass up. Even if the show may not have lived up to all our expectations, we cannot wait for more. ABC, please allow this show to grow into its own, and grant it another season.

What other shows of the 2009-2010 TV schedule are on your wish-list to be renewed for a second season?
