Cady McClain returning to All My Children

cady_mcclain_abcDaytime soaps have always had a sketchy history when it comes to life and death. In short, like science fiction and fantasy, death is not a finality. Soap characters can return from the dead, not really have been dead at all, reappear as missing twins, turn out to have been victim of a coffin switch, and if all else fails, death become a way to bring a character back as a ghost or guardian angel. All that is part of Soaps 101, a college course taught at most universities today, I believe.

That was a long introduction to reveal that fan fave and multiple Emmy winner Cady McClain is returning to All My Children. Cady was more recently on As the World Turns as Rosanna, but left about a month ago when her story line wrapped. That means she was free to sign up with another soap and ABC came a callin' for the actress.

Now, just to be clear, Cady is coming back to Pine Valley as Dixie Cooney Martin, the love of Tad's life. According to all the action on the show, Dixie is dead. She died in 2007, the victim of the Satin Slayer. She collapsed after eating peanut butter pancakes laced with poison. Tad was with her at the end. (Yes, yes, peanut butter pancakes! I don't make this stuff up.)

But then she came back in 2008 as a ghost to urge Tad to move on with his life. He has, but all hasn't run smoothly in the romance department for Tad. So... now Dixie returns again. ABC Daytime President Brian Scott Frons confirmed it to a soap magazine, saying, "We just made a deal for Cady to come back for a short run and do a story with Tad."

Since it would be a real stretch -- make that gigantic -- for both Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) to return from the dead within months of Dixie returning from the dead, I'm thinking that Cady will be an apparition of some kind. Maybe a conscience or a spirit guide for Tad. She will not be flesh and blood. At least I don't think so... Watch for the first sightings in March.

Come on, ABC! For a short run???? Do you realize how many viewers you would gain back by reuniting Tad and Dixie forever? Give Cady McClain a REAL contract! Correct the major mistake made when your writers wrote her out.

I simply can't stomach Ryan and Erica together. No chemistry, plus she has to many hard miles on her for Ryan. LOVE Emma. I think that little girl has LOTS of talent. She is really believable especially when she interacts with Ryan as her dad and also with Annie as her mom. Have never seen a scene with her yet that I was disappointed in her acting ability. Hope she is on the show for a long time! Greenlee? Yeh, she needs to get Ryan back. What happened to Jack? He and Erica worked. Liza and Tad fit..their characters always did. Dixie was too "goody goody" for Tad.

I quit watching All My children when they killed off Dixie. I think Greenlee should be dead for good and Dixie needs to be with Tad in the flesh. Ryan hasn't been good since Jillian died. I only liked Greenlee when she was with Leo.

Dixie BETTER be a ghost. She annoyed me everytime she married Tad-then wasn't happy. LOSER!
She's been killed how many times now??? I thought we were finally rid of her hanging on to poor Tads heartstrings, the wench.
At least when he was with Liza he had some fun. Tad was always having to kiss Dixies butt about something, & she just whined & whined. BLAH! Maybe they could bring her back as somebody interesting, NAH!

I've watched AMC from the first day it was on!
I love this show!
First, God Bless James Mitchell - he will be missed.
Welcome back Dixie - in whatever form you return
to the show on. Tad is awesome! He has good
chemistry with Liza.
Also welcome back Greenlee.
However, I've got to say that the Erica and Ryan
thing is a eerie. After all, he fathered
Kendall's son - please! Where is Jack?

Daisy DID NOT die from peanut butter pancakes, they were Babes' favorite pancake - BANANA!!! Babe wasn't hungry and Daisy ate them instead.

Ok first and for most I love AMC so much, but I am a little worried about that soap mag thing american wrote about. Annie and Adam are kinda stupid together but they are both evil so they work, but u know shes going to somehow end up with Scott. I like the new Liza shes sexy and I think she works, on the other hand Ryan and Erica do not. I know they have been friends for years but come on now its not cute hooking up with ur daughter and step daughters ex. Kendall and Zach need to come back I miss them Zach is super sexy. I don't really care that much about Dixie coming back, I do however care that Greenlee is. I have always loved Greenlee! I don't like the new Colby, the old one was prettier. Back to Annie I don't like her she bugs me shes so fake always the victim she needs to get killed off or something. It's too bad Adian went crazy over Kendall too, he was a hottie. Jake and Amanda are a super sexy couple I'm glad hes Trevors real daddy. David is just David always up to no good. It was sad to see the Martins go but they weren't on that much anyways plus they are getting old as it is. Jack needs to come back to get his woman Erica away from Ryan but Im sure Greenlee will do that. Emma bugs me a little too I know shes a kid but her role is stupid 1st her dad is a perv then its a sperm donor and happens to be Ryan blah blah blah. Oh another one that bugs me is the whore turned Ms. Perfect Randi, she needs to get over herself. Tad has let himself go a little but it fits his role for right now so cut him a break. Damon or whatever his name is u know balieys baby daddy looks like he never took his halloween make up off that dude needs some color and needs to check it attitude. The story for Greenlee does work b/c doctors can fix some spinal cord injuries (I'm the wife of a paralegic) but it's too similar to OLTL story with Matthew. In the end though I will always love AMC I have watched this show as long as I can remember, my mother got me started as did her mother. I am addicted thats why I DVR it everyday so I never miss it and I hope it stays on the air for another 40 plus years!!! Good Luck in LA and welcome to Cali AMC!

How could the writers possibly kill Stuart off and then bring back whiny, spoiled prima donna Dixie? Thankfully, I record each episode and fast forward through the characters I can't abide.

I love all the characters. I am sorry to see Zac go I think he was a great actor and goodlooking and sexy. I still love tad as he looks now. I think he is funny and just great. I have been watching the show from day one and will continue. i agree that Erica needs to be with someone her own age. I would love to see Jack come back and dixie. I'm happy that greenlee is coming back. Zac and Kendell make a great couple. I will miss them together. I will also miss Joe Martin. He has been on there forever. Adam also needs to be with someone older. I like the new Liza. Excited that dixie will come back I just wish it was for good. Thanks "All My Children I have enjoyed you all for many years.
