CBS Greenlights 'Hawaii Five-O' Remake

CBS has officially booked a remake of 'Hawaii Five-O.'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the network has greenlit an updated version of the crime procedural, which originally ran on the Eye network from 1968-1980.

Writers Alex Kurtzman (credits include both 'Transformers' movies, as well as Fox's 'Fringe') and Roberto Orci ('Eagle Eye,' 'The Proposal,' 'Fringe') will team with 'CSI: NY' executive producer Peter Lenkov to pen the script.CBS has officially booked a remake of 'Hawaii Five-O.'

CBS and CBS Studios, which own the rights to 'Five-O,' originally started developing the show last season, with 'Criminal Minds' exec producer Ed Bernero at the helm.

No word yet on casting.

As for the original 'Five-O,' it starred the late Jack Lord as Det. Steve McGarret, leader of an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police that was answerable only to the governor.

The show was perhaps most famous for the dialog Lord closed every show out with, instructing his No. 2, "Book 'em, Danno."
