David Letterman fired back at NBC executive Dick Ebersol, who described swipes at Jay Leno by Letterman and Conan O'Brien as "chicken-hearted" and "gutless" because neither have been able to beat him in the ratings.

"For the sake of the discussion, yes, I'm chicken-hearted and, yes, I'm gutless. But these two characteristics have nothing to do with the current situation." Letterman said. "I'm telling jokes and making fun of Jay Leno ... relentlessly, mercilessly, simply for one reason, and that is, I'm really enjoying it."
