Review: The Big Bang Theory - The Bozeman Reaction

(S03E13) This episode really could have been Sheldon's one-man show on Broadway. He was definitely the star this week, and everyone else was basically there to help set-up jokes. Sheldon is by far my favorite character, but I'm not sure how I feel about this. When I was writing out my favorite quotes this week, every single one of them involved Sheldon, and while he was hilarious, I love Big Bang Theory as an ensemble.

With that said, I did enjoy this episode a lot. Sheldon is the best when he's put in stressful situations, and there aren't very many situations that are more stressful than being robbed. Although he took everything to a quirky extreme, Sheldon behaved in pretty much the exact same way I would think I would behave if I found myself in that situation. I would be afraid of every noise, barricade myself in my room, and failing all of that, I would totally pick up and move-- although I doubt I would ever attempt to move to Montana.

I actually think it would have been interesting if Sheldon ended up staying in Montana for an episode or two. He's so co-dependent (the man doesn't even drive, after all), that I would kind of love to see him in a completely new environment, having to make his way around without anybody's assistance.

As we saw through Sheldon's eyes, it appears as though Leonard and Penny are still going strong. I'm still curious about their relationship; we need a storyline that focuses exclusively on them and doesn't involve a fight. I really want to see these guys together a little bit more, because while they seem to be in a comfortable and stable relationship, we don't really see where it comes from, or what makes their relationship work.

Speaking of relationships, I was a little disappointed not to see Bernadette this week. She's becoming one of my favorite characters, and her relationship with Wolowitz actually interests me more than the Leonard/Penny pairing. Mainly, I'm still confused about the base system that she employs, and whether or not that's just a clever way to keep Wolowitz at arms length (and above the bra).

Some of my favorite lines from this week:

Sheldon: "You know, the more I think about it, the 'mobster sauce' couldn't possibly contain chunks of mobster."
Leonard: "And why is that?"
Sheldon: "It was listed under 'Seafood.'"
Leonard: "Maybe they were mobsters who 'slept with the fishes.'"

"I'm not crazy; my mother had me tested." - Sheldon

"My new computer came with Windows 7. Windows 7 is much more user-friendly than Windows Vista. I don't like that." - Sheldon

"The four of you are three of my closest friends, and one treasured acquaintance." - Sheldon

They stole the plot for this one from "The Odd Couple", which did it nearly 40 years ago. The panic at being robbed, the extra security measures and getting caught up in them, etc.

Does anyone else feel like the show is being written by sitcom hacks this year, after 2 years of good shows?

Sheldon doesn't have a disability. He's just super smart and quirky.

Sheldon's response to the burglary was not atypical. Leonard, on the other hand, didn't seem to be bothered at all - and that was a bit odd, but I guess they wanted to contrast it with Sheldon's response.

Isn't it pretty clear that Sheldon has a the very least a mild to moderate case of OCD? Also, this is the second time for the "I'm not crazy" joke.

I actually thought some of this episode was offensive. Here's a guy, that clearly has a disability and was really scared out of his mind because of the break-in. His friends tried to tolerate him but instead they told him off. Wouldn't you comfort your friend, knowing he's scared?

Maybe I'm just overanalyzing (it's a freckin' comedy show) but I don't like when you poke fun at people like this.

He doesn't have a disability. The producers have made that clear. He's just annoying. I'd have pushed him down the stairs in the first two minutes... or changed the locks and not answered the door. Leonard is a saint.

They weren't robbed; they were burglarized.

I personally liked this episode, it was packed with great Sheldon moments from top to bottom. But I do agree with you in some aspects that they need to spread the comedic gold around to all players since they're all funny in their own right. It's hard to do all in one episode, and wouldn't mind more episodes like this one that focuses mainly on just one of the characters.

Since you so identify with Sheldon--you might want to rethink that one--maybe you can explain with whom he is co-dependent. Seems to me the gist of the character is that he's just plain old dependent.

Your complaints about who's in the episode, who's not, who's relationship needs more exposition, etc. all sound just like Sheldon complaining about the new menu.

My favorite couples (for humor) are Raj and Wolowitz, we need to see more of them together, and Sheldon and Penny, the two are comedic gold together. I think this ep while good would have benefited from more Penny comforting of Sheldon, a round of 'soft kitty' wouldn't have hurt.
