Despite Three Shows, Ted Danson Only Works Six Months a Year

He's on three acclaimed television shows -- 'Damages,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Bored To Death' -- yet Ted Danson confessed to AOL that he's not as busy as you'd think.

"To be honest, I work about six months out of the year," the actor told AOL while in town Tuesday night to promote the new 'Damages' season 2 DVD release and the season 3 premiere.

"I have family weddings and have been moving into a new house, but I haven't been working that much. Truthfully. It looks like it. I could write a book, 'How to Work Half the Year'. Except when you work, when you act, it is so much easier than the real-life part. I've never been so busy in my life when I'm not working."He's on three acclaimed television shows -- 'Damages,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Bored To Death' -- yet Ted Danson confessed to AOL that he's not as busy as you'd think.

Except when you work, when you act, it is so much easier than the real-life part. I've never been so busy in my life when I'm not working."

Some of that not working part includes special occasions like Feb. 14. "I'm bad at Valentine's Day," Danson admitted. "I said something to [my wife] Mary [Steenburgen] the other day, and she pointed out that I've never given her a Valentine's present. Her birthday is Feb. 8, so it's so close. Maybe that's my excuse."

As far as future family plans: "I'd love to see my grandkids get married, with my wife by my side. I'll settle for that."

One wonders how Danson managed to land on three well-liked television shows at once. "Luck," he confessed. "I'm a friend of Larry David, and he stays in our guest house during the summer, so he has to hire me. 'Damages' I stumbled into. I can thank Glenn [Close] for that. I saw her attached to it and got really interested because she always does such great work. [With] 'Bored To Death,' Jason Schwartzman introduced me to Jonathan Ames, who is one of the most astoundingly bizarre and talented creatures."

As far as what's happening with Arthur Frobisher on the new season of 'Damages,' he said he knows little, having only shot two days so far. "He's written a book, and a very famous Hollywood actor is interested in it," Danson revealed. "That's all I know. The odds are very good that I'll be hoisted by my own petard. His ego will get to him again."

And what would he like to see happen on 'Damages'? "Two or three more seasons of insanity," Danson replied. "I don't know, I'm fine. Whatever the writers do is brilliant."
