Liza Minnelli will get all dramatic on Ugly Betty
When Liza Minnelli guests on Ugly Betty will the cast be channeling their inner Glee? You know, do a song or dance or two? That's my wish! Miss Liza is reportedly slated to appear in a coming episode as a drama teacher who has a profound effect on Justin, Betty's nephew. Justin, as anyone who follows the show knows, is already a theater fiend. In fact, Ugly Betty as a show has been very musical-friendly (kind of like Pushing Daisies was before ABC pulled the plug).
There was the terrific Wicked themed episode that included the song, "I'm Not that Girl," and another episode in which Justin was stuck on a subway with his parents and enacted "Good Morning, Baltimore" from Hairspray.
So, is it possible that with Liza Minnelli on the show Ugly Betty might cue the orchestra and strike up the band? The character she's playing is Lena Korvinka, Justin's high school drama teacher who is -- according to one report -- an outrageous character. Sounds like it's right up Liza's alley!
Although ABC has not confirmed the casting, it's no secret that the show has been courting Liza for well over a year. And that was before Ugly Betty was a ratings disaster. Now, I can't help thinking that a Minnelli appearance might be their way to attract some attention. Maybe all the Arrested Development fans will tune in to see what Lucille Austero's like when she's not beset by vertigo.
