Conan signs a deal with NBC (no, not that sort of deal)

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 27th 2010 1:30PM
NBC logoNo, it's not for a late night show. In fact, it's not a show that Conan O'Brien is going to be in at all. It's for a show that O'Brien's production company is making. Conan and NBC have signed a deal for the pilot for Justice, a new drama about a Supreme Court judge who quits to open his own law practice. I'm assuming that "justice" is what the show is about and not the character's name, though "Jimmy Justice" would make a great name for the lead character (side note: Archie Bunker's original last name on All in the Family was Archie Justice, but I digress...). Not sure if it's a comedy or a drama, though I assume the latter.

As part of the deal that the two sides struck last week, Conan's production company has to stay with NBC for the rest of the season. He will also get to host an hour-long show every Monday through Friday at 10 p.m. Hope that works out for you Conan, fingers crossed!

Isn't the *entire* post attempt at humor? C'mon, you really think in the middle of the late night drama Conan's production company would pitch and NBC pick up a show named "Justice" ?

Isn't this basically what they offered Jay last year i.e. a show at the 10:00 time slot? Aren't they essentially re-switching positions?

Isn't Jimmy Justice the guy who runs around Manhattan yelling at New York City meter maids and traffic cops.

That would be a funny show.

i'm sorry, but this sounds just dreadful.
and i'm not watching NBC as long as Leno is still on, and/or Zucker is still in charge.

I'm assuming you were trying to be funny with that last comment? Good lord does everyone on the internet think they work for the Onion?

Ya... what? Is that last line a joke? That should really be marked as such... you really just dont know what to believe anymore, and from a news site, sarcasm doesn't come off too well...

No worries that, in the last five years, major networks have had shows called "Justice" (Victor Garber, Kerr Smith) and "In Justice" (Kyle MacLachlan, Rebecca Pidgeon)? I know both bombed, and nobody probably remembers them, but can we at least get a new title?

I actually do remember those, because they were the rare crime/trial show to be from the defendant's side of things, where not everyone is guilty, the prosecutors are not always brave crime-fighting heroes, and the victims are sometimes lying shitbags.

Just like in real life.

But it seems there's not much of a market for shows where verdicts of acquittal are returned, regardless of the facts. People want a trial to end with "we find the defendant guilty" no matter what the facts or evidence may be. I find this very troubling, TV show quality aside.
