Maybe Maria Bello is taking this 'History of Violence' thing a little too seriously.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the former E.R. co-star will headline the HBO series 'Emergency Sex,' based on the book 'Emergency Sex and Other Desperate Measures: A True Story From Hell on Earth'.

The series is inspired by the gritty tales of beleaguered U.N. peacekeepers Kenneth Cain, Heidi Postlewait and Andrew Thomson, who were all stationed in war-torn countries like Cambodia, Somalia and Haiti throughout the early '90s.Maybe Maria Bello is taking this 'History of Violence' thing a little too seriously.

In addition to starring in the series, Bello will serve as co-producer, alongside two famous faces from the big screen: writer Simon Beaufoy, who last year won an Oscar for 'Slumdog Millionaire,' and Oscar-winning superstar Russell Crowe.

This news caps off a hot month for Bello, whose film 'The Company Men' is currently buzz-heavy at this year's Sundance Film Festival. She was also considered for several upcoming network pilots, including Jerry Bruckheimer's "fugitive apprehension" show 'Chase.'

In the meantime, you can see Bello's 'Emergency Sex' co-producer, Crowe, in the upcoming Ridley Scott film 'Robin Hood.'

Beaufoy's next project is another collaboration with 'Slumdog' director Danny Boyle: '127 Hours,' which begins filming later this year. James Franco is set to star.
