Dear CBS: Please Stop Giving Away 'Young and the Restless' Plot Twists in the Promos!
I pride myself in being able to see TV show plot twists coming a mile away. Maybe it's from watching TV for so long or maybe it's from watching so much TV and writing about it all day long, but I can usually figure out something that's going on. There will be a hint, a piece of writing, some foreshadowing, or something else that gives a clue to a plot twist that I can figure out. That's not to say I figured out that the season finale of 'Lost' a couple of seasons ago was a flash forward and not a flashback, but most times I can sense something.
But there have been two major (and I mean MAJOR) plot twists on 'The Young and the Restless' the past few weeks that I didn't see coming at all. Too bad CBS spoiled them for me (and other fans) with their promos.
Before I continue, I should say that, yes, I have somehow become hooked on another soap. I watched 'Guiding Light' for 30 years and didn't think I'd get hooked on another one, but there you have it.
Anyway, CBS has ruined two big (and really well-done) spoilers for 'The Young and the Restless' in the past month. First was the revelation that Tucker McCall had hired JoJo to pretend that she was Katherine's daughter. I knew McCall had a secret, but I didn't really catch on that he had hired JoJo as part of his master plan to take over Chancellor Industries (side note: I really miss William Russ as McCall).
The second twist happened today, and it was ruined by a promo for the show that I saw during 'The Price is Right.' Adam quit Newman and went to work for McCall, and Adam and Victor had a public fist fight today at the restaurant (where everything seems to happen on this show - either there or that coffee shop). That's a nice but typical twist in a soap plotline, but the big shock came at the end of today's episode: it's all a plan between Adam and Victor! They've been working together!
I have no idea why CBS would want to ruin such big plot twists like that. I mean, the promos themselves, who are they for? They're not for new viewers, probably. They're for people who are already watching the show, and they're going to watch anyway so why ruin such great plot twists like that? I mean, soaps are all about plot twists!
So CBS? I promise to watch 'The Young and the Restless' every singlge day even if you don't entice me with a promo that reveals way too much.
