Ellen DeGeneres' Idol Debut Set for February 9

EllenThere seems to be two things that 'American Idol' fans have been waiting for patiently. One was the new season of the FOX show to start (duh), and the second is the episode where Ellen DeGeneres makes her debut as one of the judges (taking over for Paula Abdul). Some fans are probably confused that DeGeneres hasn't already made her first appearance on the show.

Well, relax fans: Ellen's first appearance is set for next Tuesday, February 9. She wasn't been involved in the early audition rounds of the show because most were recorded before she was named as a judge. She began her judging duties when the show went to Hollywood to start winnowing down the huge pool from the auditions. Too bad she wasn't there for some of the early, crazy, awful singers. I would have liked to have heard what she had to say.

The first week from Hollywood will show the singers rehearsing and performing (solo and in groups), then the following week the number will be down to 24. The next week YOU and only you will get to decide who makes it to the final 12. The week after that (February 25) is the first live results show, and eight people will be eliminated.

I stopped watching the show after they got rid of Paula. There was great chemistry between Simon & Paula: he was harsh, and she was soft. Just remember it's a natural fact that opposites attract!

Paul Lynde would have made the best Idol judge ever! I loved him on Hollywood Squares. The quips he could come up with were priceless.

I don't have high hopes for Ellen, though. She was awful on So You Think You Could Dance and I was surprised. If they stop and fake laugh at the unfunny comments on AI like they did for SYTYCD, the show is going to run late every week.

Very good question? I would have rather had just 3 judges than Ellen as one.

I can't believe the hate spewed by some of you. I pray that one of your kids doesn't come to you one day to tell you that they're gay. Will you hate them? Throw them out? I see such a lack of tolerence and character - and it's mostly from the men, which surprises me. My husband loves Ellen, so do I. She is a music freak and I think she'll make a great judge.

why pick someone with no talent to be a judge?

That will mark the day "Idol" begins its ruinous slide down into the toilet of TV entertainment. Once a great program focusing on superb aspiring singing talent, "Idol" has now degraded into pandering the slapstick antics of a comedic buffoon hoping to renew its declining ratings. It won't work. Goodbye "American Idol".

I will not watch Idol again once Degeneres begins, not because she's gay, but simply because the sight of her and the sound of her voice sickens me. What her fans see in her I'll never get.

Personally, I'm thinking Ellen may be a refreshing change for AI. I see her as the voice of the people who buy or download music, rather than just another music industry insider. I'm looking forward to seeing how this new dynamic on the show plays out, and I'll be watching with an OPEN mind.

Wow...teaching your children to be judgemental won't make them very tolerable to others who are different! Think before you speak!!! Stop hating just because others don't choose to be like you!

I find it extremely unnerving that she who is a he does cover girl make-up ads. Not only that but the judge should be an accomplished singer if not musician.
