Is Apple's '1984' the Best Super Bowl Commercial Ever?

Every year around this time, everyone talks about the best Super Bowl commercials of all-time. In fact, CBS has a special tonight at 8pm, 'Greatest Super Bowl Commercials of All-Time.' Apple's '1984' ad, which introduced the Mac, is often cited as the best Super Bowl ad ever. Is it? I love it and it's certainly in the running and iconic. Some people say this is the best ad ever, period.

Yes! Not only is it well-done, it's an important ad.172 (47.0%)

I would say the best commercial was Larry Bird and Michael Jordan playing H.O.R.S.E. for McDonald's food. Terry Tate was great too.

After reviewing the commercial it really doesn't hold up, just looks goofy. In my opinion at least.

Anyone find it ironic that back then Apple was making fun of 1984 and Big Brother, but now they've become Big Brother with their tight control over the iPhone app store, refusing to provide Flash to their users, and their closed system of hardware/software?

Beat me to the punch, all the drones sitting there are the Apple crowd but they don't realize it.
The world was ready to be broken free with the PC.

Especially if you consider that in 1984 only a small portion of the population were allowed to be party members, and they looked down on the rest of the population.

the only other Super Bowl ad that is as iconic as 'Apple 1984' is Coca-Cola's "Mean Joe Greene" spot.

Mean Joe Greene wasn't a Super Bowl ad. It premiered September 1, 1979, according to Wikipedia. It was one of the most prominent TV ads of all time, but not a Super Bowl ad.

here here. those were fantastic commercials. but the apple one is probably more significant and memorable for most people.
