For 'Man vs. Food' host Adam Richman, eating is a sport, so with the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, he naturally had to set the highest bar possible. So he decided Wednesday night to put the bite on a 48-ounce streak at the Don Shula Streakhouse in Miami during a special 'Man v. Food Live' broadcast on the Travel Channel. And he kept biting and biting. Richman devoured the streak in less than the allotted 20 minutes to win the evening's challenge, the first in the show's run to be broadcast live.

"Delicious," Richman declared during his first bite. It was downhill from there. The host ate 24 ounces in eight minutes and was hacking at the bone with 7:30 left. The crowd went wild after the Shula's Steakhouse manager Dave Shula -- also son of Don Shula, legendary Miami Dolphins football coach -- verified that Richman had done it.
Much of the first hour of the 'Man v. Food Live' consisted of Richman whipping up the crowd in a live tailgate style party in the parking lot of the Alexander Hotel in South Beach, the site of Shula's Steakhouse, and taped segments.
In the canned bits, Richmanb visited the Miami area's Sarussi Restuarant and sampled its Cuban sandwiches, Joe's Stone Crabs for the stone crabs and La Moon Restaurant for the stacked hot dogs, topped with pineapple sauce.
In a football challenge, a team consisting of NFL pros Dhani Jones, Keith Rivers and Danny Clark defeated Clinton Portis, Jake Grove and Jack Long in a hot wings eating contest. Jones, also a Travel Channel personality, was swigging a gallon of milk after the contest. The Colts play the Saints Sunday in this year's Super Bowl at the nearby Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens.
'Man vs. Food' centers around the exploits of Adam Richman, who travels to locales across the country each week and tackles pre-existing eating challenges.
The Shula Steakhouse challenge will be rebroadcast Saturday at 9PM ET and Sunday at 9AM, 5PM and 8PM ET on The Travel Channel.
