Review: 'The Vampire Diaries' - 'Children of the Damned'

(S01E13) "You know, I really like this whole menage a trois threesome thing. It's got a bit of a kink to it." - Damon to Stefan and Elena
Interesting episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' with the flashbacks showing the relationship of the Gilberts and Salvatores back when women wore hoops and guys wore watch fobs. What's really fun is seeing Nina Dobrev play the wicked vampire chick from back in the day. Such a departure from her present day Elena, who's all about the common sense.
Not only that, but flashback Damon -- all innocent and wanting to be turned by Katherine -- is the complete opposite of present day Damon, who's the ultimate bad boy vamp.
And just when we thought there was some trust between the brothers (ok, not really), things end badly with Damon threatening to turn Elena unless Stefan gives up the book he and Elena dug out of his father's grave. Which was a really cool scene, by the way, juxtaposed with the flashback Katherine being carted off after being discovered by Stefan's father via the Vervain he put into an unknowing Stefan.
There was a lot going on in this episode, and a lot of things that explained the relationships in the present day. Knowing where Damon started out with Katherine must have really twisted with his head when he met Elena. You could see that when they were doing their kitchen dance in the present day. He looked like he wanted to jump her.
Now we've got a little bit of backstory on Saltzman, who told Stefan that he believes Damon killed his wife. What about the werewolves?! And oh, snap! Anna's carted Elena off to parts unknown. Talk amongst yourselves about the journal and Jeremy wondering why everyone was so fascinated with it. I'll just leave you with this:
"These creatures are the darkest parts of hell ... they are deadly and must be destroyed." - Stefan's dad to Stefan in a flashback.
Oh, and I also loved the part where Jenna was telling Elena how hot Damon was (oy vey!), and of course, Damon heard every word and Elena countered by saying he's an ass. Go, girl.
