DeGeneres had some fun on her first day as judge. She even managed to fake out the contestants with her "step forward, step back" spiel, but did Simon Cowell call her a sadist? Interesting turn of events, since that's usually HIS title! And, yeah, that's probably what the people on stage were thinking about DeGeneres, too.
