Molly Shannon Latest Star Cast on 'Glee'

molly shannonLook, I'm not saying that 'Glee' can do no wrong (the fake pregnancy storyline obviously refutes that), but they sure do a lot of things right. Not only do they have Kristin Chenoweth returning, Idina Menzel joining the cast, but now Molly Shannon is coming to wreak havoc at McKinley High.

According to Michael Ausiello, Shannon is playing Brenda Castle, McKinley's newest astronomy teacher/ badminton coach (did your high school have either of these things? Mine sure didn't). Not only that, but she's set to become Sue Sylvester's arch-nemesis, which is brilliant for several reasons.

One, because if Sue Sylvester has another arch nemesis besides Will, then that means more screen time for Jane Lynch, which improves any show by at least 65% (FACT).

Two, Brenda Castle becomes Sylvester's nemesis because she's both an alcoholic and a pill-popper -- and that is not how Sue "C's" it.

Shannon's obviously funny, plus she can sing. Her post- 'SNL' career has been a little rocky, so I'm thrilled to see her on a show that's already a proven success. Now all we need are more male teachers at McKinley so that all the ladies have something to focus on other than Will's doe-eyes.

My HS had a huge planetarium, and an astronomy teacher. We also had badminton. So THERE! GLEE rocks, by the way!

Molly Shannon played a funny character in the movie What Goes Up.. I hope she's like that again

I think Jane Lynch is a fine performer but her character on the show is obnoxious and unfunny and detracts from the rest of the show. I think she should be toned down some- her character in Role Models was likewise overdone- not funny. please give the woman something to work with.

Just to correct the first paragraph: there's no "fake pregnancy storyline" since Quinn is, indeed, pregnant. She definitely lied about who the father is, but the "fake pregnancy" makes it sound like she made the whole thing up.

My high school had a badminton team (and supposedly was pretty good) but no astronomy.

I'm starting to feel like Glee is having too many guest stars... well, not in the 13 episodes we've seen already but the upcoming ones. Also, Molly Shannon tends to play nemesis-types (like when she was on Seinfeld), and that gets a little tiring.
