Season six of 'Deadliest Catch,' which will debut in April, has already been shot with Harris at the helm of his ship in search of king crab.

"He'll be a big part of the season and the series,'' said Beers. "But this is a huge loss to the series. The fate and the future of the Cornelia Marie and crew (are) up in the air. I'm flying up to meet with his sons and figure out what to do going forward.''

Much of 'Deadliest Catch''s storyline revolved around Harris' relationships with his sons, deckhands Jake and Josh.

"For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down,'' said the sons in a statement. "We will remember and celebrate that strength.''

Fans of the show have posted 272 pages of condolences on the Discovery Channel's 'Deadliest Catch' Web page. "I am saddened by the loss of Captain Phil. We send our condolences to his sons on the loss of their beloved father. We will miss seeing him on the show, but will enjoy seeing you follow in his footsteps, and continue his legacy. Peace be with you and yours," read one posting.

'Deadliest Catch' debuted in 2005.
