'Ellen' to Stay on NBC Stations; Won't Replace 'Oprah'

by Danny Gallagher, posted Feb 12th 2010 9:05AM
It looks like Ellen won't be the new Oprah after all. If I were Oprah, I'd be very relieved. I wouldn't want someone taking over my soul and inhabiting my body solely for "ratings."

Ellen DeGeneres has re-upped her daytime talk show for four more years and will stay on NBC's affiliates through the remainder of her current contract.

This ends speculation that Ellen would "become the new Oprah" in the wake of Oprah announcing she will end her show in September of 2011. If she did take Oprah's place though, it would have been interesting to see if Stedman came with the deal.

Here we go, the religious freaks bring out the homosexuality again. First of, it's all natural, you are born that way period. I KNOW. Sec. Just check out the sex life's those preachers have. I know a few who spread hate against gay men and women and then they go to prostitutes to have them poop onto their faces. But I guess THATS OK!!!

Ellen is a very talented person and has enough on her plate, now that her own morning show has been extended and she does the AI show. As far as replacing Oprah, well it's hard to replace O because O is special in her own way. O is smart, gets too political and starts acting "black in a negative way" and the reason she will NEVER MARRY STEADMAN is because it would end and she cannot accept that kind of failure. Why does O have to have a replacement, to begin with? A show ends, and that is it.

Cecil Jones 2/15/2010@8:15am: GREAT CALL! There is NO WAY to agree at all about Oprah not being good politically. The proof: The most recent Palin interviews (Bristol included). The questions and attempts to get just one faux pas for an answer were so repetitive and one-sided in Oprah's questioning, that the program was totally unwatchable. The next day: Rosie, and everything was just fine in Oprah's playpen. Insofar as Ellen being the next Oprah, the answer, NO WAY, is simple and definite. Aditionally, in NOT finding Ellen funny at all, she just does not have the overall 'stuff' (if you will), nor anywhere near the Broadcasting Experience which Oprah has aquired after 25 years.

I love Ellen, but why would she even WANT to be the next Opra. I seldom watched that show, unless there was some special celebrity on it. And how could a White Lesbian be a Black Straight person anyway? Ellen has enough to do without being the next Opra. Opra is a good person an has done alot of charity work, same as Ellen, but I found the show BORING most of the time.I watch Ellen's show evry day.

I have never read such racist, homophobic, and hate-filled comments on a television blog as I have been reading on TV Squad blogs of late. Sadly some of this has come from the blog authors as well. Many of the other blogs such as The Two Cents on Wordpress, do not feature hate speech in either their posts or within their comments.

While it is true that Ellen DeGeneres has made no secret of her sexuality, she has not been in your face about it either. Ellen, like Oprah has and shows a great deal of respect for her fans, her audience as well as her fellow human beings. Using her clout as a television personality, she has contributed to or brought awareness to many humanitarian causes and efforts during the run of her show and happily will continue to do so well into the year 2014.

Ellen is funny, charming, and very intelligent as well as heartwarming and kind and her commitment to the public shows. It is sad that many blog readers have made as big deal about her sexuality as they do their own.

Wake up and pay attention people!

Ellen as the next Oprah, give me a break and give me her agent. Ellen is getting some great gigs and she is about to fail miserably. Ellen's next gig could be on Mars. Her homosexuality is a double-edged sword. Can't be critical and you can't get too close as a sponsor. Oprah can be embraced by everybody until she gets political. Oprah is "Precious." That was the worst movie ever made as a spirit of accomplishment and achievement. No Oscar for you. Ellen is no Oprah or Monique.
