Walmart Gets a TV Movie on NBC

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 12th 2010 1:34PM
WalmartNBC continues to think of different ways to bring different programming to their schedule, for better or worse. The latest: The Live Feed reports that the network is giving a Friday night in April to Walmart, who will produce (with Procter & Gamble) a movie titled 'Secrets of the Mountain,' to tie in with a store promotion that they're doing called "Family Moments."

The movie is described this way: "a drama/adventure that focuses on Dana James, a public defender and single mother who takes her family to a mountain cabin they inherited from their eccentric uncle, only to find themselves embarking on the adventure of a lifetime."

I'm sure that a lot of people might think that this is taking product placement to an extreme that we don't want to see, but I'm not going to say that yet. They're a company and they're producing a movie, it doesn't mean it can't be well-done.

Now, if the movie was "a drama/adventure that focuses on Dana James, a public defender and single mother who takes her family to Walmart to buy toiletries and get their film developed, only to find themselves embarking on the adventure of a lifetime," well, then we'd have a problem.

Sounds like something you'd see on Lifetime or Hallmark Channel. Not that I'd watch it in any case, even if it wasn't a WalMart production. (But that certainly doesn't help.)

So, since Wal-Mart is producing this can we assume it will be shot in China and edited on plastic equipment by mouth-breathers?

One would think that a mountain cabin would be a fair hike away from a Walmart...

Better make sure that shopping list is complete before you trek down the mountain....
