Which Shows Are on the Endangered List?

by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 12th 2010 10:29AM

SmallvilleWe're hitting that time of year when the fates of television shows are decided. The Hollywood Reporter has posted their list of potentially cancelled shows as well as a probability score of renewal next to each.

While it is not surprising that 'Smallville' is given a high probability of renewal, it is somewhat disturbing. The show has become extremely different since its move to Fridays, focusing more on the geek factor than the teen angst. It's come a long way from the 'Buffy'-clone it started out as. If anything, The CW should cancel the series and go immediately to a spin-off Superman series, perhaps called 'Metropolis'.

It's also a good thing that 'Chuck' has recovered from its precarious perch and become a ratings winner for Monday night. What can I say? I like the show.

So what do you think of THR's list? Is it on the mark? Are the critics crazy? Sound off in the comments.

I can understand why Numbers only has a 20% chance of returning, but what I can't figure out is why Medium only has a 65% chance? And why everyone is so certain that Ghost Whisperer is virtually guaranteed a return, but Medium is on the bubble, when both shows have nearly identical ratings?

Are we sure that Chuck has indeed been saved? Who's up for Finale and a Footlong II?

Now, will there be any fan campaigns to bring back Heroes?

"24" is has only a 40% chance of returning??? WTF???

That's just crazy talk! "24" is still an enjoyable show and a solid ratings winner! I'd change that stat to at least 80%!!! It's obvious this hack is just going by the growing rumors of the movie. Movies have gone for years in development. They only just hired a writer.

Mark my words, "24" will be back next year!

The biggest shame on that list is the 5% for "Better Off Ted". Funniest show on TV today. Dead due to network mismanagement.

I agree. Better Off Ted is quirky and funny with likable characters. Plus the Veridian Dynamics commercials are hilarious and what corporate America would be saying in their commercials it they weren't blatantly lying.

If I watch it and like it, it's soon to be gone.

Reality shows seem to be doing just fine but the shows at risk of being cancelled are all in the vein of sci-fi and nerdy shows. The IQ of the average American TV viewer must be single digits.
