Sorry, Darius Rucker: The reports stating that Kevin Eubanks would not be returning to 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' just aren't true -- at least for the next couple of months.

The infotainment show 'Extra' reported earlier today that Leno's longtime bandleader was leaving the show because he "wanted a change" and was hoping to pursue other opportunities.

The infotainment show 'Extra' reported earlier today that Leno's longtime bandleader was leaving the show because he "wanted a change" and was hoping to pursue other opportunities.

And while the network confirmed to AOL TV that "Kevin has expressed interest in pursuing personal touring and recording opportunities," he "will be with the show when it returns" on March 1.

However, according to an updated report from the NY Times, Eubanks is still negotiating an exit date with NBC, and is expected to leave the show "within months of the show's return." Meanwhile, announcer John Melendez will cease providing voiceovers for the show.

NBC has yet confirm or deny the report.

Eubanks has been Leno's music man for both Leno's first 'Tonight Show' stint as well as 'The Jay Leno Show,' and the news swirling around his reported departure had already spurred rumors about his replacement. A particularly pesky one involved ex-Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker taking over Eubanks' slot, but the burgeoning country singer's publicist had told Fox News that it (obviously) wasn't true.
