(S06E15) "Hello, there!" - Roy to Robin
When Susan and Mike decided to have Robin live under their roof at the end of the last 'Desperate Housewives' episode, it was pretty much a given that her presence on Wisteria Lane would shake things up a bit. As expected, the men and teenage boys drooled all over her while the ladies wanted her off their block asap!
Even if I knew Robin would stick around for a while -- Julie Benz's stay on the show has been extended from three to an unknown number of episodes, by the way -- I never expected her to get a full episode centered around her, especially so soon. It almost looks like Marc Cherry and co. are ready to have her permanently move to Wisteria Lane, don't you think?
Not only did Robin have an impact on all ladies and their families, which helped change their minds about Robin, but the character's background got fleshed out rather rapidly. We may even know more about Robin after only two episodes than we did about the Applewhites at the end of their season!
In the days following Katherine's welcome back party, Robin had the chance to interact with the various ladies and help change their lives.
Lynette and The Stripper
Lynette discovered that Parker and his friends were secretly watching Robin as she came out of the shower. When asking Robin to close the curtains when she showered, Lynette found out that Parker offered Robin money to sleep with him. This triggered a fun discussion between Tom and Lynette about men paying for sex all the time, even if it's not with money.
As usual, there is more depth to their disagreement than meets the eye. We discover that Tom thought Lynette slept with him on their third date because he paid for a fancy dinner. However, she slept with him because he showed her he cared about her by bringing a light bulb to replace one that wasn't working.
If Robin hadn't told about Parker offering money, Tom and Lynette would have never had that talk, meaning that Tom would have never known that he only needed to show he cared. Oh, and the Scavos would have never known that other Wisteria Lane residents could see them have sex! Close your curtains, people!
Bree and The Stripper
How refreshing was it to not hear Orson complain a bit this week? If he stays on this right path, I may even change my mind about wanting Orson to exit the show.
It was really fun to watch Bree follow Robin's suggestion and try to reconnect with Orson on a more intimate level. Bree did poorly during what she called a lap dance but her goal was achieved as, in the end, Bree and Orson reconnected and talked about their needs to be together again.
Let's hope the couple keeps on being positive towards one another and keeps working on their relationship to bring it back to what it once was.
Gabrielle and The Stripper
Gaby, Gaby, Gaby. You should know better than to manipulate people! Gaby and Carlos' celebration will soon have to end, as it looks like Danny is heading to NYC to reunite with Ana. Robin may have been of help at first for Gaby but when she discovered she was manipulated, it looks like Robin told Danny the truth about why Ana is in New York.
You can bet that Danny's disappearance will have Gaby, Carlos, Angie and Nick try to find him. The Solises will want to find Danny to ensure he stays away from Ana, while the Bolens will want to find their son because him being on the run puts them all in jeopardy. I sense a major "search for Danny" storyline coming up, that may finally give us answers about some of the Bolens' secrets, do you agree?
Susan and The Stripper
This was probably the least surprising storyline involving Robin this week. It was highly predictable that Susan would eventually be jealous. Even if predictable, this storyline was important, as it made Robin move out of Susan's house and move in with Katherine.
Katherine and The Stripper
Katherine and Robin hit it off right from the start as they both had difficult times in their past. We learned that Robin's mother used to take out her anger on her daughter. Katherine shares that it was really bad at the hospital, especially the screaming and the people with blank stares.
The ladies decide to go out drinking. They are soon invited to join two guys at their table. Of course, the guys are only interested in Robin, especially when Katherine mentions that Robin is a stripper. Robin quickly points out she is an ex-stripper and wants to leave. The guys try to convince her to stay and to get out of the situation, Robin kisses Kat!
When they are back home, Robin and Kat discuss what happened at the bar and Robin says that she is a lesbian. She asks Kat if it is a problem and the latter says no. At this point in time, it looks like Kat is not totally comfortable with having a lesbian who just kissed her living under her roof.
However, at the end of the episode, Mary Alice hints that Wisteria Lane residents discovered Robin's incredible beauty, as we see Katherine sitting on her porch and looking at Robin enter the house. Looks like Katherine may give Robin a shot.
A Robin-Katherine pairing could be very interesting. Katherine needs a friend and some good in her life, and it looks like Robin could bring that to her. Their pairing could also mean more Lee and Bob, as they'll surely want to have double dates with another gay couple. And we need more Lee and Bob on the show!
McCluskey and The Stripper
No matter how Robin affected the lives of the other residents and how her character got fleshed out this week -- enough for us to decide if we like her or not -- the best part of the episode was near the end when McCluskey talked with Robin. Who knew that McCluskey used her body to make money in the past?!? I so hope Roy finds pictures of that somewhere around the house one day just to see his reaction to the reveal!!!
How did you like this new episode? What's your take on Robin? Should she become a regular cast member, a recurring à la Bob and Lee, or leave Wisteria Lane and never come back? Share your two cents in comments below!
