For the next two weeks, we're teaming with Vote for the Worst to name the 10 worst 'American Idol' semifinalists ever. Check back tomorrow to see their pick for number nine.Name: Brenna Gethers
Season: 5
Worst Performance: 'Last Dance'
Why We Loved to Hate Her: Brenna Gethers' fate was sealed during the second week of the season 5 semifinals when she made an all-too familiar 'Idol' mistake: singing a song with ironic lyrics.
In her case, it was Donna Summer's 'Last Dance.' For whatever reason, Brenna chose to begin the song with the lyric "'Cause when I'm bad, I'm so, so bad," and from then on, it was hard to disagree with her. Every note was wrong, every move was off, and as 'Idol' inched one step closer to the top 12, it was hard to figure out how she ever made it past the audition round.

In her case, it was Donna Summer's 'Last Dance.' Every note was wrong, every move was off, and as 'Idol' inched one step closer to the top 12, it was hard to figure out how she ever made it past the audition round.
Still, even though Brenna was "so, so bad," there was something oddly enjoyable about her. What she lacked in vocal talent she made up for in a campy, outrageous personality that fed off of two things: fame and, of course, the camera. She could pose on the drop of a hat ("You never know when they're watching," she told Ryan Seacrest. "Hi America!"), donned a "sexy pout" on the red carpet and made no reservations about her financial aspirations, whether they were tongue-in-cheek or not. Even after Simon Cowell told her it was indeed her last dance, she still urged America to "call Nigel [Lythgoe]" so that we could all "make some money." And, really, in the fame-hungry world of 'American Idol,' who could blame her?
Of course, America listened to Simon, not Brenna. And while we agree that it was probably the right call, we'll admit that we were a little sad to see Brenna and her unpredictable soundbites go away.
'Cause when she was bad, she was so, so good -- at least for TV, anyway.
