Classic TV Haters Vandalize Andy Griffith Statue

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 25th 2010 11:02AM
I don't understand why anyone would want to vandalize any statue, but a statue of Andy Taylor and his son Opie? That's just madness! But that's what happened to the statue that TV Land put in Mt. Airy, NC, with green and red paint. Here's the video from a local news report. TV Land also has statues of Mary Richards in Minneapolis, Bob Hartley in Chicago, Ralph Kramden in New York, Elvis in Hawaii, The Fonz in Milwaukee, and Samantha Stevens in Salem.

I give TV Land a lot of grief for their programming decisions, but I'm impressed they're actually flying someone to NC to repair the statue.

I guess this is what the world is coming to,this show is where we all would be better off living in!
Instead of the dog eat dog world where people care only about themselves and have no regard for others!
It goes against the message that the show tried to get out!
Thanks Andy and Barney for the great jobs you did and shame on those responsable!

It just makes me mad as hell. When I want to escape from reality I watch the reruns from this wonderful old show. It was The Best !! Andy and Opie are Americana in it's purest form !! God bless them.

Give Barney a FULL GUN! And have Otis Breathe on them. It is a shame that some people are "hell bent" on doing such things.

It makes no difference who was responsible for the vandalism, it was
still wrong. It wasnt their property.
People need to respect each other and the property of others. It
doesnt matter if you liked the show or not, it is still wrong and
those who did it need to be punished for the actions they took.

I've got a n idea; if they find the responsible party(ies), make them clean the town sidewalks with a toothbursh.

What a shame. Yes, they're fictional characters, but they were representative of an age of innocence, morality and good old family values. I feel sorry for whoever did this. They've missed the whole idea behind the statue and are nothing more than neglected vandals.
