Will Julianne Moore Return to 'As the World Turns'?

julianne_moore_before_they_were_stars_abcOnce upon a time, long before 'Boogie Nights' and 'Far From Heaven' and '30 Rock' and a zillion other projects, Julianne Moore was a soap opera sensation. She was riveting in 1988 when she won a Daytime Emmy for playing Frannie Hughes and her look-alike sister, whom she had never known growing up, Sabrina Fullerton, on 'As the World Turns.'

With the end of the soap coming in September 2010, reportedly CBS has asked Julianne Moore to make a brief return to 'As the World Turns' ... for old time's sake.

On the surface, this seems like an outlandish idea, but is it really? If Julianne could fit in a couple of appearances on '30 Rock,' which she did, why not 'As the World Turns'? They film in Brooklyn. It wouldn't be a stretch or anything.

And the great thing about 'ATWT' is that the tapestry of the show is so well-woven that Frannie and Sabrina are not out of the family conversation. They are Bob and Kim's children, and Bob and Kim are still on the show. You can watch them two-three times a week. It would be relatively easy to write in a visit from Frannie or Sabrina or both.

The families on 'ATWT' are the heart of the show and with the final months playing out, it would be a great time for more former characters to return. Will Meg Ryan be lured back as Betsy Stewart? Doubtful, but wouldn't be it cool?

Julianne Moore has been an independent spirit when it comes to her career, so if she said yes to this, it wouldn't be out of character. She's unconventional and daring, and her taking a step back into her first big role ever, would be both.

Question: First the Guilding Light now As the World Turns they were the longest running soaps ever, being bury with much of our past. Is there no more good writer that can create an interesting storyline? I grew up with these soaps watching every scene with my mother and grandmother, those memories will leave with the shows.

This was news Saturday. Moore's reps AND CBS confirmed early this morning that she was returning for an episode.
