New Cast for 'Dancing With the Stars' Revealed

by Michael Pascua, posted Mar 2nd 2010 8:00AM

Kate GosselinThe celebrity cast of 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 10 has been announced. ABC wisely trimmed the cast down from 16 to 11. Hopefully this will get rid of the unnecessary double eliminations.

On paper, this season's cast feels like the celebrities have a higher caliber. They are at least closer to B-listers than just washed-up celebrities. This balances out the reality TV stars that stretch the definition of "Star." I have come to terms with the fact that Kate Gosselin will end up on my television in one way or another with the excuse that she's doing it for her kids. The full list after the jump.

The Full List:
Buzz Aldrin - Astronaut
Pamela Anderson - 'Baywatch'
Erin Andrews – ESPN Correspondent
Shannen Doherty – 'Beverly Hills 90210'
Kate Gosselin'Jon & Kate Plus 8'
Evan Lysacek – 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist in men's figure skating
Niecy Nash – 'Reno 911', 'Clean House'
Chad Ochocinco – Wide Receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals
Jake Pavelka'The Bachelor'
Aiden Turner'All My Children'
Nicole Scherzinger - Lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls

Obviously, ABC and Disney have loaded several names that go back to their own franchises (Erin Andrews, Aiden Turner and Jake Pavelka). Even Niecy Nash was a voice on the Disney film 'G-Force.' I don't expect them to go that far, since their fanbases are a bit smaller than the other celebrities. Also, will Jake's selection on 'The Bachelor' create backlash?

We are provided one ringer: Nicole Scherzinger. Not only is she better trained in learning choreography than Mya or Mel. B, Nicole is also adjusted to having cameras thrust in her face. She originally was on the reality show 'Popstars' and was a judge on the NBC show 'The Sing-Off.'
Here's hoping that the now 80-year-old Buzz Aldrin can survive past week one. What do you think of the cast? Leave comments below.

Evan Lysacek is an excellent choice! I'm looking forward to watching him dance as well as he skates. He's a competitor but a classy guy.

Why do you have to always have an 80 yr old in the cast?!!! I hope buzz is better than cloris because she was a loudmouthed, obnoxious, sooo not funny, disaster!!!!!! Niecy fits all the last comments, except she isn't 80 years old; she will be one of the first to go!!!!

K.G. is a D-lister, doesn't dance at all, doesn't like being told what to do, has to 'tell' guys what to do, so HOW did SHE make the cast? With 8 kids at home that need a parent with them at all times to do the regular parent things (take to/pick up from school bus, help with homework, feed them, etc.), she has said she will NOT allow Jon to fill in while she's gone during HER scheduled time with the kids. Some mother there! And take that ANY way you want to.

I watch this show every season. I love it and really like to see the talent coming out of the sports stars. I was really disappointed to see Donnie win last season. I think there were far more talented people to be recognized that haven't grown up in the entertainment field their whole lives. Let's not make this such a popularity contest and vote for the real dancers that have come a long way since the beginning of the show!

Ew...if that's your idea of "higher caliber", give me the B-listers. This bunch is already borderline unwatchable - if Melissa Rycroft gets Samantha's job, that'll be it for me.

I do have to admit to a certain degree of perverse curiosity over whether Shannen or Kate's going to blow up first, though. My money's on Kate.
