Rob Lowe Heading to 'Parks & Recreation'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 3rd 2010 9:45PM
rob_lowe_smiling_blindsWeeks ago when it was announced that Rob Lowe was leaving ABC's 'Brothers and Sisters,' the spin from ABC was that they desperately wanted to keep Rob in the fold and would be working to develop a new television project for him.

Guess what? That was all a lot of hooey. Or exaggeration to the point of sounding more optimistic than true. Today, Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly reported that Rob Lowe will be joining the NBC sitcom, 'Parks and Recreation.' This is a great move by Rob, turning to comedy rather than jumping into another dramatic series. And if you think Rob's not good at comedy, you don't remember his letter-perfect imitation of Robert Wagner's character #2 -- as a younger man -- in 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me."

As for what he'll be doing on 'Parks and Recreation,' that has yet to be revealed. He's expected to be in some episodes at the end of this season and definitely next season. Since the show revolves around small town politics in Pawnee, Indiana, perhaps Rob will be a local pol. Perhaps someone who will cross swords with Ron Swanson or Leslie Knope and the Parks and Recreation Department?

Rob has the politics vibe down pat, having played a U.S. senator on 'Brothers and Sisters' and the Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn in 'The West Wing.'

Wow, I thought the people posting about Rob Lowe's flair for moving onto other shows when he's tired of where he's at were going to be the most ignorant parts of the thread. Until I started reading the parts about him being a sex offender because one of the girls he had sex was 16, lied about her age and looked older, and who he met IN A BAR.

When did the comments section here turn into a bizarro world mix of Perez Hilton and Glenn Beck?

This show just keeps adding rejects and losers. Really is anyone watching this show? Really, seriously do people really watch this show?

I love P&R, and I think Rob Lowe should be a fine addition. I just wish they would write Rashida Jones off the show. She is an unnecessary character who isn't particularly funny.

Why would anyone want to hire Rob Lowe for a TV series. He's always quitting or otherwise unreliable.

Rob Lowe isn't a strong enough actor to carry a show on his own, that's why they put him in another show. He is fine as a supporting player.

I use to like Rob Lowe but, he has walked away from really good shows. He is a good looking man but, looks will not last for good and he has a family. Or maybe he has enough $ where he just is not caring...

Rob Lowe was caught having sex with underaged little girls years ago. statuary rape makes him a sex predator and he should be treated as such.

The "underage little girls" lied about their age and looked like 30 year old hookers. You sir, are a grade A moron.

Give me a break. Yes Rob Lowe is a good actor, dramatic or comedy. But he needs to get his ego in check and start becoming a team player. He got miffed on West Wing when Martin Sheens role out shone his, and now again with Brothers and Sisters.
Perhaps a one-man show with Lowe playing all of the characters will suffice.
