NBC Loves 'Chuck' But '24' Might Be Too Expensive

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 4th 2010 4:07PM
NBC logoNo, we here at TV Squad haven't suddenly lost our minds. '24' is indeed on FOX, not NBC, but there's a possibility that the show could change networks if FOX decides that this is the last season of the drama, and NBC execs have talked about picking it up.

That's one of the topics talked about in The Live Feed's interview with NBC head programmer Angela Bromstad. It's unlikely that the show would come over to NBC because it's much too expensive, but Bromstead isn't completely ruling it out because it's something that has been talked about. As for other NBC shows, the network is very happy with the way 'Chuck' is performing and the same is true about 'Community,' though neither of those shows have been guaranteed another season.

As for that other show that people wonder whether or not is coming back, 'Heroes,' Bromstad says she met with creator Tim Kring last week and they talked over some things, but there's no word yet on whether that show will come back for another (probably final?) season.

Just announced an hour or so ago: Community has been renewed, as have The Office and 30 Rock. No word yet on Chuck, though if they are as happy with it as they are with Community, that certainly sounds promising.

I'm fan of all 4 shows & would like to see each of them renewed. But I am finding 24 somewhat stale & formulaic this season.Chuck continues to be fun & charming,& Community is a riot. Heroes has had erratic quality over the years but still retains my interest,so I'd love to see it back in the fall for one final wrap-it-up season.

I'm pleased to see they're even moderately happy with Chuck and Community since, aside from an occasional must-see guest on SNL, they're pretty much the only things I watch on NBC.

Now watch 'em do something stupid like cancel them anyway.

Chuck and 30 Rock are the only 2 shows worth watching on NBC. As a result, Chuck will certainly be cancelled, and probably 30 Rock, too. Good, entertaining, well-made, scripted shows are contrary to NBC's busines model. I mean, who embodies "crap" and "lowest common denominator" moreso than Jay Leno?

Considering it's ratings and increased cost I wonder why Fox continues with 24, let alone another network taking it on.

Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox: "... there's not a lot of shows that could do a 9 share against the Olympics. Tremendous sales asset for us still; a show we're so very proud of creatively."

That from another Live Feed interview posted today, when asked about the future of "24".
