Scott Porter of 'Friday Night Lights' is Ready for Adventure on 'Nomads'

Taylor Kitsch is heading to the big screen in 'John Carter of Mars', Minka Kelly is starring in a CBS comedy pilot, and Jason Street himself, Scott Porter, has landed a leading role in 'Nomads', the CW's adventure series pilot.

'Nomads' sounds like a welcome departure from the network's recent teen girl-friendly fare. The show follows a group of broke, young (and probably very sexy) backpackers working secret missions for the CIA abroad.

'Numb3rs'
writer Ken Sanzel, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are producing the pilot. Early reports have billed the project as an "adrenaline-fueled thrill ride," something those Scott boys know a lot about, I hear.

Porter is a solid dramatic actor who brings a great sense of earnestness to his characters, even when he's playing a polygamist player on 'Caprica'. I was hoping the guy's big screen career would take off after his roles in 'Speed Racer' and 'Dear John', but 'Nomads' sounds like a fun, action-packed project in the vein of 'Alias' or ABC's short-lived 'Traveler'.

What other young TV actors would you like to see join Porter on his adventures abroad? Maybe Rick Gonzalez (Ben) from 'Reaper'? 'Terminator's Thomas Dekker? Let's hear your picks.

Why do they always have him playing such a young person? The dude looks over 30.

FWIW, he was quite good as Jason Streets.

Wasn't a fan of Dekker until Season 2 of Sarah Connor and then he finally began to man up.
