by Donald Deane, posted Mar 8th 2010 3:30PM
On 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), Kathryn Bigelow reflected on her Best Director Academy Award win for 'The Hurt Locker,' which makes her the first female director to win the award in history, and touched on those serving in the armed forces that the film depicts.

Bigelow said she hopes that her Best Director top honor is only "the first of many" such awards that other female directors will win, but she was careful to point out that the film's sobering subject matter is of primary importance.

"I feel like if the movie can be helpful, it can remind us that ... there are men and women who take that lonely walk to a rubble pile in some obscure corner of the world never knowing what they may find," she said. "And if we can just take a moment to appreciate that, then the film will have fulfilled its destiny."
