Andy Richter Has Ill Will Toward NBC and Jay Leno (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 9th 2010 1:00PM
Andy Richter had plenty to say today about NBC's late-night talk show debacle on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). The former 'Tonight Show' announcer pulled no punches and blamed NBC execs for not honoring their commitment to Conan O'Brien and 'The Jay Leno Show' for failing to command ratings and provide a strong lead-in.

When asked by Kelly Ripa whether Richter harbors ill will toward the network or Leno for the shake-up which put Leno back in the 'Tonight Show' seat and resulted in O'Brien's ouster, Richter replied, "Yes. Yes, I do. Well, why wouldn't I? I mean, my god, I'd be like some sort of self-hater."

Richter also criticized NBC for how they handled the 'Tonight Show' and said Leno's prime time 10PM show ultimately hurt its ratings. "Everybody said they were going to do something, and then they didn't," Richter said of the network. "And there was all kinds of talk about our ratings not being very good, but they were pretty good all summer, and then our lead-in changed and they weren't so good anymore."
