It seems that CBS is eager to prove that it's still the boss by renewing its newest hit series, 'Undercover Boss,' for a second season, The Live Feed reports.

'Boss,' a wish-fulfillment show for many jaded workers, follows high-level chief-executives of top companies as they walk a mile in their employees' shoes and meet the blue collar Joes and Janes who keep their companies running.

The midseason series benefited from a plum post-Super Bowl slot for its debut, but has continued to perform well on Sunday nights, posting considerable gains on its 'Amazing Race' lead-in and averaging around 18.74 million viewers per week, making it the number-one new series of the 2009-2010 season.

"We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to the series and how audiences seem to connect to it on several levels," enthused Jennifer Bresnan, Senior VP of CBS Alternative Programming, in a statement released earlier today. She pointed out that audiences were eager to see the "top boss perform the jobs of the rank and file," as well as citing the "relatable and inspirational" stories from employees that keep viewers coming back.

The main question, however, is how sustainable the new series can be. As the article points out, given the show's success, employees will soon start to wise up to a new worker joining their ranks with a camera crew in tow. Perhaps in season 2, even the cameras will have to go undercover too.
