'Mad Men' to Become Ken and Barbie Dolls

Mad Men BarbieIf you can't wait for season four of 'Mad Men' when it debuts later this year, Mattel can help you play 'Mad Men' and create your own stories. According to the New York Times, the toy company is creating versions of Barbie and Ken based on four 'Mad Men' characters - Don Draper, his wife Betty, Roger Sterling and Joan Harris.

If you want to play out Draper's past, you can get a full-sized G.I. Joes and swap clothes. Or you can get a bunch of regular Barbies and have an office party and make them dance to the 'Mad Men' soundtrack.

The Times piece mentions that these dolls won't be marketed to children. Instead, they will be part of the Barbie Fashion Model Collection, and will cost about $75 each.

So living out your 'Mad Men' fantasies through the dolls will be a tad expensive. But you might not want to take them out of the box anyway. The dolls will be produced in a limited run of 7,000 to 10,000 each (again, according to the Times), and you might want to sell them later to a collector. Which will be hard to do if you get lipstick on their collars.

I loathe Mad Men, but this is a riot. Wonderful inside joke.

Ahhh, but will the Barbie dolls come with cigarettes? If I can't have them smoke when I play with them, I'm not interested. It's like 90% of what happens on Mad Men anyway.

Well, this is Mad Men and the 1960's we are talking about... of course there won't be a Peggy doll!
