'Mad Men's' Sal To Guest on 'Ugly Betty'

bryan_batt_mad_men_nycThe men from 'Mad Men' are very busy these days. You have Jon Hamm all over the place, with beard and without, not to mention he and John Slattery being immortalized by Mattel as action figures. Action figures sound more manly than dolls, but you get the picture. The other night Rich Sommer was on 'Ugly Betty' as loutish firefighter.

And now the news that Bryan Batt will be on 'Ugly Betty,' too. TVGuide.com confirms that Bryan -- who was so good on 'Mad Men' as Salvatore Romano -- will be playing a soap opera star who Amanda decides would be Mr. Right for Marc. She plays Yenta, the Matchmaker, and hopefully, the two guys will hit it off. Batt's set for the April 7 episode, and may be in the series finale as well.

Since these are the last days of 'Ugly Betty,' it would be great if this casting inspires them to give Marc a happy ending. The character has had romances before, but nothing's stuck.

As for Bryan Batt, his future with 'Mad Men' remains dim -- at least for the upcoming season. He's not under contract. Sal was last seen calling his wife with an excuse about why he would be late coming home, when he was actually cruising Greenwich Village after being fired from Sterling Cooper. It was a sad exit, especially since Sal didn't deserve to be dismissed.

It's my hope that in the new company -- Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce -- hires Sal as a freelance commercial director.

Just realized last night that Jon Hamm does the voice over for a Mercedes Benz commercial - the one where you see the car flipping towards you in a simulated accident. His voice over sounded like every pitch his character has done in MadMen.
