'Parks and Recreation' - 'The Possum' Recap

by Kona Gallagher, posted Mar 12th 2010 1:02AM
parks and recreation (S02E18) I miss the pit. It's been a while since we've heard anything about it, so it was nice to have it mentioned again. Even though Leslie may not have her favor with the mayor's office (I guess she'll just have to live with an un-laminated bus pass), I'd like to see something happen with the now-filled-in giant hole in the ground.

Leslie clearly has more important things on her plate, like possum-wrangling. The whole task force thing could have been just ridiculous, and don't get me wrong-- it was, but there was one thing that saved it: the fact that there was an actual possum running around on Andy's neck. How he didn't just vomit to death, I'll never know. Chris Pratt deserves a raise though.

Other than the fact that they had a live possum on Andy, there was something else that I found surprising: the fact that I find myself agreeing with Ron Swanson more and more. I kind of feel that if he wants to add onto a woodworking shed that resides on his land and only he goes in, then he should be able to, without having the city planner come in and ruin his fun. However, I do concede that the collection of oil-soaked rags hanging over the wood-burning oven is probably a bad idea.

I'm still trying to figure Andy out. April is making the fact that she likes him more and more known, but he's still acting relatively oblivious to this fact. He's clearly still hung up on Anne, but at least we finally got some forward momentum with him. The fact that he was so upset when he realized she was pissed at him, and made a point to mention her in his big article was really sweet.

Other items of note:
  • Ron Swanson probably makes better use of his free time than anyone I know. Not only is he a jazz musician, but he makes a mean canoe. He's quite the Renaissance man!
  • I about died when April was watching 'Meerkat Manor' with the possum and asked if he knew them.
  • Was the nanny cam bear a weird coincidence, or was it a reference to Rashida Jones's role in 'Cop Out,' in which Tracy Morgan gave her a nanny cam bear?
  • Tom should really start dressing in golf attire on a regular basis.

Anne hasn't been in the last couple episodes. Nothing last week and just bookend this episode. I realize she doesn't work at City Hall, but that hasn't been a problem with storylines in the past... Why is this?

Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) is actually an accomplished woodworker in real life.
