Paul Schneider Leaving 'Parks and Recreation'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 13th 2010 2:44PM
Paul SchneiderThis is not going to sit well with a lot of 'Parks and Recreation' fans, but here goes: Paul Schneider is leaving the show.

Co-creator Mike Schur confirms to the LA Times that Schneider is indeed leaving the show. Seems it's a combination of things. The fact that Schneider's character wasn't supposed to be on the show in the same position (he was supposed to be a character that came and went, switching between various government and private sector jobs) and the fact that Schneider's film career is taking off. He's going to be missed. He was always sort of the Jim Halpert of the group.

There is a bit of good news in this bad news. Both Rob Lowe and Adam Scott are joining the show. That could make things interesting and even make the cast a little meatier. Of course, there's a bit of a bad-news-inside-this-good-news-inside-this-bad news: Adam Scott is also on 'Party Down,' a really good show on STARZ. I hope he can do both.

Actually, I think, in terms of The Office, Rashida Jones is the Jim Halpert of the group... if you're going to have Mark be anyone in The Office universe, I think he's the "Pam" from the UK version, nice looking enough but just so bland that he sucks the life out of other people's comedy sometimes. I think he's a good straight man for a lot of the people on the show, especially the Andy character in regards to his relationship to Ann, but once you got past his status as 'guy from Leslie's past who wouldn't be such an obsession for any normal person (i.e. not Leslie)' they didn't have much to do with the characters, and I think Paul Schneider has done fine for what they've given him, which is not much.

Adam Scott IS Party Down. That's a big blow to the show.

The show doesn't even need Ann either as much as I like Rashida Jones. She should be a recurring character whenever something with The Lot (Pit) needs to be done or when Tom needs to hit on someone.

He'll probably show up in the last few minutes of the season three finale and back for season four until his character has enough of that.

I like the actor, but the character wasn't that great but he served his purpose.

Not many Mark-Ann shippers in the crowd I see.

Also, totally agree that Party Down is fantastic.

Agree with all but the last comment, Paul brings absolutely nothing to the show! A show like this relies on the one-liners and Mark's character has none, so there's no real reason to keep him around.

Finally! At last. He was like the Cleveland Brown of P&R.
