'Millionaire Matchmaker' Will Find New York Gold Diggers in its Fourth Season

Patty Stranger of 'The Millionaire Matchmaker'There's a bit of a love-hate relationship with 'The Millionaire Matchmaker' in my house. I watch because its fun to see people who have it going on financially fumble around in their attempts at finding love. It's also fun to see matchmaker Patty Stanger (who TMZ once very accurately called a "Muppet-faced yenta") scream at her peons, the millionaires who seek her help, the men and women she recruits to date them, and just about anyone who comes into her orbit.

But what always nagged me about the show is that she's essentially setting her clients up with gold diggers. Bravo has renewed the show for a fourth season, where we'll see Stranger expanding her business into New York. Which should be fun, since the Big Apple has a higher class of social strivers than the aspiring-actor/actress-slash-bartender types Patty's been finding in L.A.

Think about it: Why would you "audition" for Stanger if you weren't hoping to meet a millionaire? You can claim a need for "security" all you want, but you can get that with your own job. Nope, most of these poor schnooks that come to her for help are probably finding "love" with someone who's keeping more of an eye on their asset portfolios than their personalities.

The show has been snagged in the past for inadvertently setting up its millionaires with women who turned out to be escorts and Playboy models, and some of the prospects -- gay, straight, male or female -- that have shown up this season aren't much better.

But in New York, the hopefuls are now going to be more media types than "party planners;" you'll likely see bloggers, freelance writers, rookie publicists, and other attention-seekers (what are the odds that Julia Allison shows up somewhere to recapture what's left of her media career?). But just because they shop at Whole Foods instead of Ralph's doesn't mean they're going to be any more interesting to watch, because we know what 99% of them are there for.

Curious to see what kind of millionaires we're going to see, though. Which New Yorker would you like to see go through Patty's dating gauntlet? Let me know in the comments.
