MTV Makes a Date with 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger'

Now that MTV has rebranded their network, losing the "Music" in their name and ditching "Gen-Xers" for good (it still stings ... we made you, MTV! We made you!), they're ready to start expanding their roster to resemble the more traditional cable networks. First up, it's MTV's first single-camera comedy ... ever!
For this groundbreaking first, they're going with an all-original concept:
Played by Paul Iacono, RJ Berger is a bit of a loser, but his life gets even more complicated when a bully pantses him in gym class revealing his sizable asset to the entire class. While it has a profound impact on the attention he's getting at the school, it's not all fun and ladies. Actually, it is a lot of both of those, but more attention from the ladies means more attention from the much bigger and stronger guys the ladies used to pay attention to. And that's not the kind of attention "God's urinal cake" really wants.
Clever gimmick aside, 'Berger' actually looks like a pretty well put together high school comedy. You've got the loyal sidekick, mean jocks, hot girls and confused faculty. MTV put together a two-and-a-half minute trailer for the series, and as long as these aren't the only decent parts they might have a potential hit on their hands; a definite plus for the new direction of the network.
Don't forget to look forward to that other modern TV staple in the trailer: the use of a hip song for dramatic effect in the closing moments.
Oh, I get it! 'The Hard Times--' Oh man. That is so rich! You are too much for my Gen-X sensibilities, MTV! 'Hard Times' indeed. Or was that too cynical, MTV Networks president Van Toffler?
