Mindy Kaling of 'The Office' revealed today on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' that her character's first name, which is Kelly, could be an homage to Kelly Ripa, and Craig Robinson's character, whose last name is Philbin, could very well be a tribute to Regis Philbin.

It all seems even more plausible when Kaling points out that Philbin's son-in-law, Michael Schur, works as a writer on her show.
