If at first you don't succeed with your plans to parlay a big-screen career into TV stardom, try, try again.

At least, that seems to be Christian Slater's motto, as the 'Heathers' and 'True Romance' star has signed on for his third TV show in as many years.

At least, that seems to be Christian Slater's motto, as the 'Heathers' and 'True Romance' star has signed on for his third TV show in as many years.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Slater will play the lead in an untilted Fox comedy pilot that revolves around the Titan Team, a group of super-smart twentysomethings who break into complex security systems.

Slater's character, a military vet, is a snarky, renegade womanizer with a "checkered past." The actor will pull double-duty as a producer on the series, which also stars newbie Trevor Moore as one of the Titan Team members, and was created by 'Aliens in America' and 'How to Train Your Dragon' writer Adam F. Goldberg.

The Fox comedy follows Slater's starring roles in a pair of flopped primetime series, NBC's 2008 drama 'My Own Worst Enemy' and ABC's current-season drama 'The Forgotten,' which is all but officially dead at the network.

In between the full-time series gigs, Slater has maintained a high profile in TV land recently, appearing as himself in episodes of 'The Office,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Dancing With the Stars' and 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' and making guest appearances on 'Robot Chicken' and 'My Name Is Earl.'
